Sony TV poor HDR content - is it broken?

Peter Boyle

Hi,

I bought a SONY BRAVIA KD55XH9296BU 55" Smart 4K TV back in October 2020 but ive ran into an issue a few times with YouTube HDR videos looking totally off colour wise. Does anyone know if this is could be an issue with the TV or if it is an issue with YouTube? I'll link below and example showing the colours seen in a video by Marques Brownlee. The colours seen in the recording is almost exactly how it looks in real life. This issue is also seen in other YouTubers videos such as iJustine who shoot their videos in 4k HDR. The TV looks amazing when watching content in Dolby Vision on Disney+ so I'm starting to think the TV is not the issue

The TV is still under warranty so I'm just wanting to get some idea if I need to send back the TV or if it is just a YouTube issue.

Example video:

Thanks in advance

I ran the original Marques Brownlee video in HDR on my LG OLED and it did not look like your clip.

My Windows HDR on YouTube looks exactly like it does going through the app on the TV.

This is the video I used to test.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I have just tested that video you linked on my TV and it looks perfect. I am unsure what this issue could be then. I dont know if it could be a faulty tv but I dont imagine so if some videos work and some dont. Unless the TV is somehow trying to force HDR if thats even possible? Idk if it is but just brainstorming ideas that might make the colours look terrible.

Thanks for the reply
