Why did my audio go away overnight?

Hi, if you are reading this, I need this solved URGENTLY. I have been having to use a laptop for the past few days but all of my software and data is on this computer and I need to do lots of editing (and gaming, because quarantine). So there isn't much more to say other than one night it was working, I wake up, turn the PC on, and there is no audio (it was in sleep just so you know). I thought it may have updated overnight and kept all my programs running, but I removed the latest update to no avail. I don't know how to fix it nor what caused it, PLEASE HELP, this has prevented me from using this computer as a LOT of what I do revolves around audio. CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (OC) 

Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II 
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 3200 Mhz 16 GB (8x2) 
GPU - Asus Dual RTX2060 12GB

Storage - Crucial BX500 480 GB - Seagate BarraCuda 7200 RPM 2 TB
PSU - PowerSpec 650 Watt 80 Plus Bronze (looking for replacement, its loud)
Cooler - Hyper 212 Evo with two RGB fans

NAS:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 (had on hand)

Motherboard: HP Slimline S5610F Motherboard from Ebay

RAM: EVGA Superclocked 16gb

Storage: 2x 4TB WD Blue and old asf caviar se16 250gb because I had it and its worked for so long I don't trust anything else as much

GPU: Integrated on the mobo
Case: Old PowerSpec case from Micro Center (that can hold 8 hard drives)

PSU: EVGA W3 500W

Cooler: AMD stock cooler at PS4 RPM's that keeps the cpu at 14-24 degrees

You can't connect speakers or headphones directly to a GPU.

 

Are you using your monitor's built-in speakers? Or plugging your headphones/speakers into a headphone jack on your monitor? Or something else?

I have my speaker connected to the monitor passing through the audio from HDMI as I have multiple devices connected. Sorry if this sounds confusing to you. It all worked one night but not the other, this setup hasn't given me this problem ever before.

Try updating the graphics card driver,after all it handles the HDMI audio as well.

Not confusing at all, it's just that details are important when troubleshooting over the internet 🙂

 

I'm going to assume that you don't have a free headphone jack on your laptop to plug your speakers into since I figure you'd use that first rather than messing with HDMI pass-through.

 

Given the driver stuff you mentioned I'd use DDU to wipe all graphics drivers (since you're using the GPU audio driver instead of the OS audio driver) and reinstall the latest ones from AMD.

Another thought... make sure that when the driver updated it didn't accidentally disable the sound device for your monitor. Go to setting, devices, then click on manage sound devices to make sure your monitor isn't set to disabled. You can see below, for my system I have some monitors (as audio output devices) disabled, so they won't show up or pass through audio over HDMI/DP.

If you are using the "Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.2.2 Optional" driver,then you are using a Beta driver.

Beta drivers are buggy,

For some reason AMD treat them as normal updates and not being transparent about it.

Use only the latest WHQL driver - those drivers are better tested and more stable.

 

20.12.1 WHQL is the latest WHQL driver.
