My SSD dropped to 99% health out of nowhere?

JoshB2084

I am not sure how much I cared about my SSD  about 1 year and 2 months, and suddenly dropped to 99% health. Should I worry about it? Yes, I am virgin about SSD, and I don't know much about SSD. I always had HDD too long,

Nope. They all drop that first percent pretty quickly.

That's perfectly fine.

My 11-year-old SSD is at 91% health.

Let's put it this way: your drive dropped its health by one, single percent in a year; you've likely got a couple of decades of life left in it.

I had my Adata SX8200 Pro lowering to 95% in very short period. But after disabling Scheduled optimization in "My computer" settings, it stopped.

Might be an issue with W10 or W10 insider build.

I will advise highly against that, TRIM needs to be done every once in a while. OP: You really shouldnt worry about HD Sentinel read out, but more so about nand writes.

Wow, really?  That's pretty long time ahead of SSD.

Yeah, I wonder why NAND have more writes and where come from?

Yup,I'm all for TRIM, but for some reason it seemed t obe the reason for lowering disk health. After disabling the automatic "disk optimization" the rapid lowering of the disk health stopped.

Doesn't trim runs in background on it's own wiyhout the need of windows defrag tool? Atleast that's what i found in a snippet when i googled

To OP,  SSDs have limited writes and once they reach that threshold, they are bound to fail, health percentage is just an indication of how much life is left in them according the rated TBW limit.

Operating system let's SSD know when(and what) to trim. What you read in Wikipedia page is that before windows 7 service pack 1 trim was not fully supported by the operating system and required manufacturers software to be installed and let that handle trim.

TRIM command does not have to be acted on by the drive immediately. With normal file delete operations then a TRIM will be sent along with it, but if the drive is busy it doesn't have to action that right away. What the Windows defrag tool does with SSDs is send a TRIM for all free areas to help ensure any previously missed areas are covered by TRIM.

Uhmm, what is the TRIM, and why is it that important?

TRIM is a function (like the name suggest) trim the deleted data from the SSD (usually by clearing the memory cell where deleted data is). This process will make your SSD perform optimally, as the SSD doesn't need to remove the data from an occupied cell that holds deleted data before writing a new data into it.

You can learn more about it in here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_(computing)
