Recently aquired a Ryzen 9 5900x and im having problems Send help!

KONA

Heres the Story....

After upgrading my system from the R7 2700x to the R9 5900x i get AA for Q code and the white light for the VGA is  lit on the motherboard and i get no display signal at all to the monitor After hours or trouble shooting i have found a weird issue that i dont know the solution to and im hoping people on here do. If i change the RTX3080 graphics card (that was working 100% fine on the with the same mobo and old cpu) to a 1660 super the computer boots loads windows and works great. I did get the 3080 to display to my monitor one time for a short period but then it just went to a black screen. Part of me thinks my 3080 died but i have a hard time believing that when it worked fine yesturday and all i did was swap the cpu. I just feel like this is something firmware/spftware related the install of windows is pretty fresh only a 3 months old as i upgraded the motherboard when i pre order the 5900x back november.

Have you updated the UEFI firmware (BIOS) on the board to the latest version?

Also, try see if the 3080 will work with your old CPU in, and maybe try reset the CMOS (Load defaults in BIOS) and try again.

Workstation:

Intel Core i7 6700K | AMD Radeon R9 390X | 16 GB RAM

Mobile Workstation:

MacBook Pro 15" (2017) | Intel Core i7 7820HQ | AMD Radeon Pro 560 | 16 GB RAM

I'm running  the latest update and I would try the old cpu again but the system is custom rigid tubing and with mono block so that's not a quick 5 min thing.

Are you running a xmp profile on your ram? Try running stock ram

Run the 1660 as main and 3080 as secondary.

In windows check if the 3080 is detected.

yeah i thought about trying this but the issue is the 3080 is on a waterblock and with my pump rez combo it only fits in my case with vertical mount to test this i would have to completly remove everything and order some soft tubing to reconnect the card to the pump when its out of the case. If i had a small gpu like a gt710 or something i might be able to squeeze it behing the 3080 and move the riser cable to the lower pcie slot for the 3080. But im really leaning towards this being more of a configuration issue with my old drivers not liking the new CPU wether it be chipset driver or graphics card driver and i havent tried that yet going to give that a go tonight.

Yeah tell me about it really makes me regret doing a full custom PETG hard tubing build. But temps are good and it looks pretty XD

I solved the issue.... and its kinda dumb always is. The board was set to auto for PCIE switching from GEN3 to GEN4 and because adding the new CPU completed the trifecta of mobo cpu and gpu all gen4 compatable it thought lets run in gen4 when the riser i have is only gen3 thats why 3080(Gen4) no worky and 1660(Gen3) worked fine. So i plugged in the 1660 loaded the bios up and changed the PCIE 16x slot the video card was plugged into from Auto to Gen3 and it worked right away no issues.

This is where the story takes a sad turn after getting hyped its working i proceeded to play some games then out of nowhere 30 mins or so in screen goes black and i hear a loud ass sound like a gunshot scared the crap out of me. Turned out the pressure i guess built up in the watercooling loop and popped a tube out enough past the O ring to spary coolant out and me not noticing (Too busy gaming) it had leaked down into the AX1200i platinum PSU and blew it up.

So i have spent the last 4 hours draining taking everything apart cleaning it and so far i have put the stock air cooler back on the RTX3080 and it does still work fine the backplate blocked the coolant from hitting it mostly. Still have to test the Motherboard and CPU and everything to make sure thats all working but thats for tomorrow. First time anything like this had happened and i have been watercooling PCs for about 10 years now.

It will be BIG sad if the 850$ CDN CPU and 500$ CDN motherboard are dead i might just crawl in hole somewhere. But the next plan for tomorrow is head out to canada computers grab a darkrock 4 CPU cooler and probably a power supply and we going back to air for a bit.

Thanks all for the help
