5800x or wait for i9 rocket lake

henmen

Hey guys, I just recently ordered a ryzen 5800x (533$) with a motherboard and ram. The only part that has not arrived is the ram. I just read intel is releasing their rocket lake mid March. I'm still using an i7 3960x so I want to make this the most potent and lasting upgrade. Having slight buyers remorse.

Should I send everything back and wait for rocket lake, or will it be extremely hard to obtain an intel cpu on release like seemingly all hardware right now.

Thanks!

I would just keep the 5800x and wait for ram. 5800x has awesome performance and if intel will beat it, it will only be because of massive clock speed out of the box with tons of heat.

OK sounds good, my plan will then be to keep the 5800x and if a 5900x possibly becomes available within my return window get that.

Last question,

I ordered gskill tridentx 16gb 4133 19-19-19. I later saw 16gb ADATA xpg 4133 19-23-23 ram for about half the cost. Both are on the motherboards qualified ram sheet. (Arorus x570 master) I'm thinking of testing the adata first. I feel like the gskill can't be worth double the cost or be much faster.

So hopefully keep the ADATA? Thanks

4133 ram is pointless

i'd return it and buy a 3600 cl 16 kit

if it was useful give it a like :) btw if your into linux pay a visit here

Depending on the price I agree with that.

In the same boat. I ordered a 5800x from AMD's webstore and it is arriving tomorrow. They don't do cancellations, only "refuse shipment" or RMA for refund.

I have the opportunity to keep it or refuse delivery.

Thing is, I kind of just impulse bought it because it's relatively hard to get and it was available.

I am presently on an overclocked 8700k and don't really see a point to this upgrade.

For me it totally makes more sense to wait for Alder Lake or Zen 4.

Why pointless? I thought zen 3 would see benefit from higher speed.

it does up to 3600 more than that is beneficial but under 2%

besides that 4133 kit will put a lot of pressure on memory controller on cpu

if it was useful give it a like :) btw if your into linux pay a visit here

especially when they are claiming that 40% IPC improvement. seems hard to believe but who knows??
