PSU spark and pop in ac input

So, my PSU is screwed, but the mobo seems to be fine. I replaced the PSU and the little lamp on the mobo turns on.

My friend gave me an old PSU. I plugged it in and after a minute or so the AC input area "exploded" (sparked and made a pop sound). It's not smoking visibly, but there is a faint smell. Are my components screwed?

P.S: The smell reminded me of how my phone charger for Xiaomi smelled after use. It was usable. Does this mean that my PSU (or components) might still be fine?
