[USA] i7-10700F 8c/16t up to 4.8 GHz - $229.99 ($310-$80.01)

Edit: 10700 (same CPU as 10700F but with integrated graphics) https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-10700-Desktop-Processor-BX8070110700/dp/B086MG1C7C for $294.99

This seems like a good deal for a modern 8c/16t. The only competitor I can think of for this at this price is the 10600K which is also on sale for this price. The 10600K is overclockable if you get a Z490, but this CPU has 2 more cores and 4 more threads.

CPU - Ryzen 5 5600X | CPU Cooler - EVGA CLC 240mm AIO  Motherboard - ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 | RAM - 16GB (2x8GB) Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 3600MHz CL17 | GPU - MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 3X OC | PSU -  EVGA 600 BQ | Storage - PNY CS3030 1TB NVMe SSD | Case Cooler Master TD500 Mesh

No, it's not a good deal. It's a great deal. It's been $270 to $323 at Newegg since mid December of last year.

Now who it's a great deal for is going to vary.

That's a good $40 to $93 off its common price over the past few months. The i5 10400F is $151 right now, which is $79 cheaper and the better deal when it comes to strictly gaming because in most higher demanding games, the performance difference between the two is around 1-18 fps in 1080p and somewhere in the middle for the most part. It really depends on the game and resolution in particular. And the higher the resolution, the less difference in performance between the two. So 1-18 fps is going to be even lower in 1440p or 4K and not exactly worth the extra $79. But, the extra 2 cores and 4 threads might be worth that $79 to a lot of people.

At $230, the i7 10700F certainly seems more desirable than it was at $270 to $323 if you do more than just game. What's going to matter significantly to a lot of people is Z490 motherboard prices. Until they come down from $150 to $160(for the introductory boards that is), you're stuck with much cheaper H410($57-$68) or B460($70-$109), which in turn limits RAM speed to DDR4 2666.

I've bene not paying attention to intel for so long, I thought the I7-10xxx series was still 8 core no hyperthreading....

Image result for hey that's pretty good

Intel either had the capability (or, more likely, the sense) to put hyperthreading back on its i7 CPUs for 10th-gen. Now, if the i9 is back to 8C/16T for good, does it make business sense for them to continue offering a cheaper mid/high-end CPU with the same C/T count in the future?
