Can't find any 3rd party reviews...

BTGbullseye

So, I'm in "line" for an EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra Hybrid Gaming, but I can't find any 3rd party reviews of the card. Am I just getting the worst Google results of my life, or is nobody reviewing this variant? Do I really need to be the first to provide a review off the EVGA site for the card?

I lurk on the EVGA forums to get info on cards. I find it better than reviews.

The cards with the most issues are the FTW3s 3080 and 3090s.

I originally got in line for the FTW3s since that is what worked out best for my 2080 tis but now I am in line for XC3s.

Looks like the hybrid XC3's haven't had any units shipped since December... At least according to the spreadsheet. The FTW's have regular shipments though.

At this point I will get what comes up first.

I did the auto notify late since I was going for a FTW3 Ultra 3090 at first and that took a while to save up for.

Now I have done Auto Notify for the FTW3 Ultra 3090, XC3 Ultra 3090, XC3 Ultra 3090 Hybrid and FTW3 Ultra 3080.  I need 3 cards but not at the same time so it might get interesting.

At Newegg I did auto notify on 2 ASUS 3090s and did the same at B&H but have gotten no emails yet.

He's got the latest "updated" version I think.

One thing is for certain, this EVGA card is big, it's heavy, and dumps out a lot of heat.

That really doesn't help much though, as the FTW3 is a very different design from the XC3. XC3 only has 2 8-pin power connectors, the FTW3 has 3.

the xc3 isn't very good, but also has not a lot of issues.

I don't understand if you go evga why not a ftw card? those are really good as usual.

As for reviews? I don't know, the usual culprits (youtubers) didn't do any?

I really like these reviews... you get a good overview of what's 'available'  (err...) and he seems pretty objective too.

TLDR: the FTW has the same power limit (of whooping 450 watts??) as the FTW3, so the FTW is a good choice, the XC3 is "midfield"...

The 3080 FTW3 cards are having a lot of strange issues, which is why there are a bunch of beta BIOSes for the card. Also, I have enough saved for the XC3 hybrid, and I don't know if it'll cover the extra $30 for the FTW3 hybrid if I end up having to deal with RMAs. I am on the notify list for it as well though.

Not according to Google at least...

Sadly too generalized for what I'm looking for. Also, the ratings for the hybrid cooler cards are conjecture based, as he only links reviews for the air-cooled versions.

Yeah, but it's not a review of the cards... If it was, it would've noted the many issues the FTW3 cards are having. I'm looking for actual reviews of the specific cards, not a buy guide. (I already know what I want to buy)

Ah ok I didn't know you're going for the hybrid, I'm sure that's a great card... as for issues, most reviewers don't have issues, they also get hand picked card from the manufacturers so they don't have "issues"...

But yeah I also noticed this barely any proper reviews out there for many models (GIGABYTE VISION OC FOR EXAMPLE...)

true it's more of a buying guide and overview - I really like those 'reviews' he puts a lot of effort in them.

People mainly go there to complain.

It is also a great place to go if you are thinking about an RMA since the site is monitored by their product manager.

With posts like "3070 caught on fire" and "Major issues with 3090" it is hard to call it a fanboy site.

Yeah, and that's not the hybrid, that's the air-cooled. I'm looking specifically and exclusively for the hybrid version that isn't an aftermarket addition to an existing card. I want to know about the performance of the hybrid-cooled card when the cooler is applied at the factory.

Sorry didnt notice the "hybrid" part but having said that it is the same card but with an AIO slammed on it so that's what you can expect from it but with lower temps

(waste of money imho) no wonder you cant find a review you are looking for a niche card of a lineup that barely anyone can take a hold of a GPU in general 😛

Good luck though

The forum was the best place to get info on issues with the 20 series like the XC power limit bios update to boost it to + 30.

With the 10 series, that is where I learned that my GTX 1080 Sc was missing thermal pads and got instructions on how to order them.

I am seeing the same issues with the 30 series hybrids that the 20 series had and that was pump noise and the cooling solution not being able to keep the card cool enough to be a better solution than the 3 fan cards. People are style having to do push-pull setups to get the cards into the 50s.

The pump noise may be improper installation like what Gamers Nexus described.  They do pump noise RMAs like the did with the 20s.

I am going for them anyway.

I am not planning on selling any of my GPUs so if I have to do an RMA it will not be a big deal.

(waste of money imho)

Well, it's only $10 more to switch to a Hybrid for the FTW3, and $30 for the XC3, so it's really not that much of a waste of money IMO.

Good luck though

Thanks.

People are style having to do push-pull setups to get the cards into the 50s.

I had been planning a push-pull setup from the beginning, so that's not that big of a deal to me. Arctic P12's are quite good for rad pushing/pulling. The only question i have is, should I have the P12's on the top or bottom. (they will be attached to the motherboard running at 80% constant unless the CPU exceeds 90% usage, and the EVGA fans will be attached to the GPU on a steep custom fan curve)

The pump noise may be improper installation like what Gamers Nexus described.  They do pump noise RMAs like the did with the 20s.

From what I was seeing on the EVGA forums, it seemed like people weren't relocating the air bubble, and that was causing the initial issues with noise. That said, as long as it's not a bad pump entirely, it'll still be a massive upgrade in how much noise my GPU produces. (I'm still on a blower cooler for my 5700XT)
