Aurora 7 Laptop is CRAZY

Thingyman

Summary

Expanscape has just announced prototypes for its Aurora 7 laptop with 7 screens. It is currently only available to purchase via inquiry, and pricing has not yet been revealed. It weighs in at around 12 kilograms, so it's not intended for everyone. It also has some pretty beefy specs, including an i9 9900K, 64 GB of ram, and a GTX 1060.

What if you need a mobile system with more than three screens? Well, Expanscape has developed a prototype of a laptop with as many as seven screens, and it is already selling the prototypes to interested customers. It also comes packed with an impressive amount of power on the compute side to match.

The Aurora 7 Prototype indeed comes with four 17.3-inch monitors featuring a 4K resolution (two working in landscape, two in portrait mode) as well as three auxiliary 7-inch screens featuring a 1920 x 1200 resolution. All the monitors fold or swivel out of the primary chassis, making it a transformer of sorts, and no on-site assembly before deployment is necessary. The whole system weighs around 12 kilograms, so it is not easy to carry, but it is naturally easier to transport than a laptop along with six extra displays.

My thoughts

Personally, I don't really see the use of this. I still would really want it, but if they could perhaps develop a 2 or 3 screen one for consumer use would be much better and I would think would actually sell a decent bit. I think if this were to happen, I think the major factor would be price. I wonder how expensive the prototypes are now? I honestly am not sure. Probably at least 4-5 grand.

Well it's not exactly designed for gaming, is it? Also, this is still a prototype, so it can change.

still. if someone does professional work and need Cuda, 1060 is not that good option.

also 9900k when there are much better cpus out there. 9900k is still a beast but there are better options form AMD and from Intel

Well, it does say it's a prototype. Feels kinda like they picked the components when they started working on this which could have been a couple years ago now.

What year is it?

Tried to buy anything newer than that recently? 😄

On the laptop itself, not sure about the smaller upper-side screens. Feels like a step too far. Still, 4 displays (normal one, above, left, right) I think would make a great portable streaming setup.

It should come with an external battery you carry in a second briefcase. What a flex that would be while sipping your chai latte.

I think that many tiny screens means it’s intended for stock brokerage stuff which doesn’t actually require all that much.  It actually probably overpowered for that.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

US disaster stuff?  When the were last funded well enough to actually do so and the issue wasn’t played down to protect the reputation of political leaders.  Can’t speak to other countries.  NGOs behave just like any other large organization.  Nothing can happen without money.  Even fax paper costs money.  Remove the money and you stop the functioning of the organization.  One thing for sure it’s not for gaming.  It’s for watching multiple graphs at once.  There are a few types of business that rely on that sort of thing.   The problem is it looks like it’s a computer meant for air travel, and there hasn’t been a ton of that lately.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
