CPU power cable too short

Cringe123
Go to solution Solved by Cringe123,

Sorry for making a post so long after it ending but i had to put this here. It turns out this case DOES have a hole for the cpu cable. If you put it through the hole before putting the motherboard in it's very easy to get it in no issues. (Just saying to let others know who may be thinking of using this case)

Thank you :). By the way is it ok for cables to touch the mb and are gpus always like this. I'm going to try to buy a new one soon (3060) and are these little gaps always there? Thanks

yes it should be fine. Best long term would be to purchase a simple extension cable off amazing like @Sp4gh3ttilinked or similar that suites your needs.

Oh god this hurts, big relate. Option 2. Just make sure it isn't touching the silver fins of the heatsink or it may catch fire.

Even if it's touching the heatsink it should be well under the thermal rating for the cable's plastics. But if it does become a big enough concern just wrap it with a ziptie for clearance.

I will consider buying a longer cable if It's needed. The only reason I want to even change the CPU cables management in the first place is because of a new gpu. This is a 1060 mini and I want to get a full size so the cpu cable isnt going to work there anymore.

Ik I could do that but I can't slot it under the motherboard now without taking the pc apart. Also I just tried the other way but I couldnt do the way they said I had to go under and over the gpu as I have this wifi card I forgot about blocking the path. It works fine though and Will work with the 3060 I want which is actually less wide than the 1060 mini so it will be easier

I've had to do this as the wifi card is in the way. Works fine though. The 3060 that ima (hopefully) get on launch is actually thinner than this card so it will be fine

So....this looks absolutely long enough to route through the back - is there no cable management panel on the backside?  Im guessing here, if there is, is that their is a cutout right behind the upper portion of the motherboard (meaning you have to remove motherboard then route cable) meant for this cable management.

I can't put it there. There is no cutout for the cable. Dont worry though I have sorted this out now. I found another good place for it to go that will work.

What case?  I will be sure to avoid, that doesnt make sense given it has a rear panel for cable management (though I have seen cases were the cutout is to small to fit a 8 pin for example)

Dremel would fix this right up with no other purchases - but doesnt matter Ive run them up front too - enjoy!

Is that ok for it to be touching the back of the MB ? Also does that mean I have to take my gpu and all my cables out ?

Of course it is.  It's an insulated cable.  10 years ago before cases had holes all over them to run cables through THIS IS HOW WE DID IT EVERY TIME.

8 hours ago, Cringe123 said:

Also I'm not sure if there is actually enough space. Are you sure?

I'm sure.

I looked at the case on amazon and some people said that they also had the cable doing what I had it doing.

Because this people, like you, don't have a lot of prior experience.

Also on my old Micro Atx case the cable was not running behind the Motherboard

MicroATX is a lot smaller too, though.

What you do is actually run the cable under the motherboard.

Was gonna ask "Who remembers when we used to run them buggers under the boards??"

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

So that's why my old case is laid out the way it is.

Are you going to keep posting this until you get an answer you like?

You route the 8-pin cable underneath the motherboard between the motherboard PCB and the motherboard tray.

What case?

Some cheap CIT "Blaze" case that has no cable management holes.

It's an okay ish case if you dont consider that big design flaw. Idrc about how bad the cable management is. As long as it works i dont mind.
