VivoBook F515JA - Docking

R055c

Hi,

I've recently bought a new laptop (VivoBook F515JA (the i5 version) and it will spend it's time split 50/50 between sitting on my desk and being mobile.

When it's connected to my desk, I'm trying to work out what the simplest way is to have it connected to my 2 monitors I found I could get something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Hub-Laptop-Docking-Station-Black/dp/B08JLWCNNP/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=laptop+dock&qid=1612169469&sr=8-9

Which would mean I would only have to plug in one cable to my laptop.

The thing that's got me confused is with all the different variants on USB C.

Looking at the specs on google it would seem that i have USB 3.1 Type C and what I actually need is just USB C however i have no idea.

Can somebody explain what the difference is and if that docking station would work for what I want it to do?

so the two main difference is USB-c gen 3 or thunderbolt (they use the same connector). Within both of them there are different generation like USB 2.0 3.0 3.1 3.2 the difference between them is how fast there are but they are all backwards compatible.

The one you have chosen should work fine if your laptop supports video out via USB-c

check this site to confirm that https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1042843/
