If you only need a computer for basics tasks and do not intend on upgrading it later on, building it yourself with the unstable prices might not be the best option at the moment. Getting a decommissioned office desktop will be cheaper and will suffice for web browsing etc.

Definitely. You can also get away with the lower end Athlon 3000g (2 cores).

It's pretty fast for daily activities (non gaming / productivity).

You can do light gaming with it (pubg/fortnite etc).

Browsing and office doesn't use many cores, i would say 4 cores will be plenty for the next 4 years.

Make sure you have enough ram (2x4gb) and a SSD drive.

With AMD platform you can just upgrade the CPU anytime you want up to 16 cores.

Make sure you have a A520 or B550 motherboard.

I use my 2200G for web browsing and YouTube and even some light gaming. There is more than enough power for that. As @SupaKomputasaid you can even get away with a 2 core Athlon. Most laptops are still rocking 2 cores CPUs and people are still fine.

My main rig has an old core i5 4670K and can still run a decent number of titles without any issue it only really struggles in the most demanding applications like encoding, rendering and streaming.

Then you should come back and ask for recommendations in mid 2021... not 6 months early.

It will certainly be more than enough for basic tasks but in a few months there may be better offers.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Yes there's not much improvement in the browsing / office programs other than hogging more memories.

Memories are cheap, you can upgrade anytime.

The CPU utilization seems stagnated for a long time now, you can still use a core 2 duo machine just fine with a memory and ssd upgrade.

Like previously mentioned, you can also buy a decommisioned office pc with an old i3 / i5 2nd to 4th gen for under $150.

There won't be any difference 6 months later. New chips probably may appear, but 3200g is still going to be a good buy even then.

Easy, my old 3770 is slower than a 3200G and can do all that no sweat. Instead of the 3200G though, I would consider a 3100, it's 4c/8t for $100.

EDIT: nevermind, 3200G has integrated graphics, that's more valuable for an internet machine.
