AMD Demonstrates Full Support for DirectX 12

Today, AMD announced support for Microsoft and its revamped graphics application programming interface, DirectX 12, a new "console-like" version of the graphics API that has inspired PC gaming for nearly two decades. During the Microsoft-sponsored panel, DirectX: Evolving Microsoft's Graphics Platform, AMD revealed that it will support DirectX 12 on all AMD Radeon GPUs that feature the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture.

AMD will support and collaborate with Microsoft on the development of the generational advancement of the API, to continue to improve the experience for both developers and end users."AMD strongly believes in the benefits gamers and game developers can realize from lower-overhead API development," said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, Graphics Business Unit, AMD. "With the Mantle API, AMD has shown the world our commitment to incredible performance, and we look forward to enabling the same performance gains by supporting the industry-standard DirectX 12."

Reaction: Meh

Real programmers don't document, if it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.
I've learned that something constructive comes from every defeat.

In other words, exactly what Nvidia is doing.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and intellect has intended us to forgo their use, and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them. - Galileo Galilei

So Nvidia and AMD are doing the same thing for a change and not fighting over an API yeah... I think "Mantle" is going to be dead by 2015.

Still, Mantle is here and now, so might as well use it, right? Most guys wishing or hoping that Mantle dies tend to have nVidia cards I've noticed.

I don't wish it to die I personally right now don't care about either its just if AMD and Nvidia work with DirectX12 what developer would support Mantle after the already announced games for it? (except indie devs)

Amd didn t rly want to make every one use mantle, just scaring MS to do something for once is what they were actually aiming for. So their goal was acheved

Face it Windows 8.1 is superior to Windows 7.

UI wise for me no

system/performance wise yes

Oh please DX12 has been in the works of years (most likely) MS did not care and then realised they were neglecting the PC community and decided to do something about nothing to do with AMD...

Yeah, I am very happy with my 7950 :)

From what I've heard, DX12 is so similar to Mantle that they must share some amount of code.

idk why every hates metro so much, it isn t eye gauging or anything, it s just a full screen search bar(that actually works faster than the win7 one).

if you don t want to see it just look at your keyboard while you type what you need and then press enter.

This. I can never go back, if just for the boot speeds and stability. I've never bsod-ed on win 8. I mean yes, I've had many crashes due to unstable overclocks, but that's not the same. I just wish I had a copy of xp to dual boot to play really old games.

What if I think the Metro UI is that fucking ugly? And nobody should try to bring up the "don't like it, don't buy it" argument we're talking about hijacking desirable features behind OS upgrades, I shouldn't have to pay for something I don't fucking want, regardless of whenever or not I can get rid off it. There's no compelling reason for me to justify an OS upgrades. DirectX 12 might be compelling but not at the expense of a full priced OS or expensive upgrade.

For that reason I'm seriously considering adhering and recommending a strict policy of "Linux or GTFO" for all future PC games, particularly if Direct X 12 isn't available on Windows 7 or on a completely free upgrade from 7 to whatever the fuck. I had just about enough of fucking Microsoft.

for me metro isnt the issue, its the fact that so many other things are hidden out of the way so that normal users cant find them.

Things like wireless settings, control panels, and command prompts are a royal pain to get to. I can deal with the weird metro UI and even some of the metro apps, but they made it a pain in the ass to get to the important stuff.
