(Its funny, I have yet to find the 2U system model)

I have:

2U rackmount  Supermicro Server with 4 blades:

4xX9DRT-HF

Blade 1:

  2x e5-2640 v2 @ 2.00GHZ (8 Core, 16 Thread)

  40GB DDR3 10600 (32GB CPU0, 8GB CPU1)

  2xSSHD 2TB (8GB NVMe)

  160GB HDD (OS, Brand New)

SFF PCI-e 16x (single rise, confined)

  Windows 2019 Server Standard

Blade 2:

  2x e5-2640 v2 @ 2.00GHZ (8 Core, 16 Thread)

  16GB DDR3 10600 (8GB CPU0, 8GB CPU1)

  2x1TB HDD

  160GB HDD (OS)

SFF PCI-e 16x (single rise, confined)

Blade 3:

  2x e5-2640 v2 @ 2.00GHZ (8 Core, 16 Thread)

  16GB DDR3 10600 (8GB CPU0, 8GB CPU1)

  2x1TB HDD

  160GB HDD (OS)

SFF PCI-e 16x (single rise, confined)

Blade 4:

  2x e5-2640 v2 @ 2.00GHZ (8 Core, 16 Thread)

  16GB DDR3 10600 (8GB CPU0, 8GB CPU1)

  1x1TB HDD (1 open caddie)

  160GB HDD (OS)

SFF PCI-e 16x (single rise, confined)

I'm thinking

Ingest

Transcode

Failover for some or all of services

Worst case video editor

Keeping 2 systems the same, I can have hardware redundancy with a hdd swap.

There are only 3x 3.5 bays per blade so NAS doesn't seem like a good idea. The server used to have a bunch of ram. This is it's retirement.

I have a very good selection of parts except video cards and large HDD/SSD.

QUESTION:

How would you configure this system for a person who want a server addition to their workstation and NAS?

I have plenty of time.

GOAL:

I want a budget server for the Youtuber on up and up. They likely have a nice workstation and a decent storage system. I want to build a piece of hardware that will allow them to expand and be an asset to the TEAM.

A little h-264 add-in card should go in there somewhere.
