3060ti underperforming after replacing a gtx 960

Hi,

 

Ive got issues with my newly installed 3060ti on my pc, was getting fed up with 30 fps on rust so i decided to replace it with a 3060ti, and now im not sure if it was a wise decision.  My problem is my gaming fps is slightly more than my old gtx 960 4gb on csgo and on other games higher but not by a significant amount, my cpu load and gpu load are no where near 100%. And eventhough i get increased fps its a lot less stable.

 

My pc is: a i7 4790k, 16gb ddr3 1333mhz corsair vegeance pro, gtx 3060ti FE ( used to be a gtx 960 ) , Corsair CX600 PSU, Z97 gaming 5 gigabyte mobo.

 

I would like to know if its an hardware issue or software issue and if theres any fixes to this,  any help and advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Did you use DDU and remove all display drivers pre install and driver update for the 3060?

Yes you HAVE to, to get it to work right 🙂  Uninstall all drivers, boot back up and download drivers = the performance you expect.

I thought maybe it was some kind of software issue with games because my userbenchmark said my gpu was fine yesterday.

CSGO is a single core game right?

 

Perhaps it was already maxed out with the 960?  Is the 3060ti at 100% during gameplay?

I havent played CSGO so I cant compare how it runs on my hardware for any sort of comparison - no core is over 50%, GPU is at 45%, may be due to network - looks like you are getting 240+ FPS?

i think it was a lucky screenshot its from 120-240, its very unstable fps aswell compared to my 960.

 

I was thinking maybe just could be my ram 1333mhz? hmm maybe ill just have to get a cpu/mobo/ram with my student loan next year haha. My mate , we both bought 3060tis but hes built a complete new pc, ryzen 5 5600x 3060ti and getting 600+ fps at max settings.

 

Im struggling to get 200 at medium settings. Which is why i thought maybe my gpu was underperforming.

Im using a h100i from 2014... maybe its dry??

You are thermal throttling your CPU - needs a repaste for sure, better cooler perhaps.

 

What tipped me off was the low frequency reported, and honestly it should be getting better frames (decent CPU by todays standards for sure) to make me ask the question.

Got me some MX-2 handy, but do u think if it could be my h100i drying out?

Not really - maybe an air bubble if its oriented with block as highest point of loop - got a pic of computer - also download iCUE to check the pump RPM and settings (fans as well) imho

Might need to clean, new thermal paste and a fan 120mm fan i think 😞
