Yup, must be some kind of financial situation, subsidy or other political shenanigans that causes them to have some incentive to have finished cars sitting on a parking rather than parts...

I'm not sure some of you have your priorities straight. Your actually worried that car manufactures who provide transportation which is a necessity don't deserve priority over a graphics card which most people use to play videogames on? Ok you do you then

I've noticed this a lot in tech enthusiast communities — this tendency to not only see PC gaming as important, but to believe it's so important that the entire industry revolves around it. My theory is that these are younger people who are used to the world feeling like it revolves around them, and slowly learning that it doesn't.

Same could be said about the automotive industry.... TSMC is bound by contracts, if they dont deliver they pay for it dearly (not to mention the damage to their reputation). Highly doubt TSMC will breach other contracts just because one industry screwed up their predictions.

I somewhat get buying new but at the same time I really don't. The car i bought had less than 40,000 miles on it and basically new condition. Most of the people I knew simply thought it was a new car not used. All that and it cost 8 grand less than what it would have cost brand new. I guess if you are someone who drives a ton then buying new would make sense but as someone who doesn't drive very often I simply can't justify the cost increase. Also the nice thing about used cars is the failure curve for most products are u shaped meaning if something is going to fail it will fail at the very start or near the end of its life so you don't have to worry about recalls and all that with a used car.

Well, talking about a rational approach when talking about buying a car is a complicated one. Most of the cars manufacturer's catalogues are made of things which don't make sense ... Look, where I'm at (small village of 700 inhabitants surrounded by crop fields), there are in my street an Urus, an RS6, two model S and a bunch of german SUVs such as GLC/GLE. People do it because they can, because they like it or because they feel they need it to fit into some kind of norms. In any case there's no rational approach to this or we would all be driving Dacia's, same goes for the PC world, like seriously why do people spends hundreds to gain a few FPS or max out the settings? In the end that's still the same game right?

I am not sure if I agree here. I can understand people choosing a car that they like and choosing might not always be rational but what I don't understand is the value of a new car. Like why does the value of a car depreciate so fast that a 30k car new ends up being 20k after being used for a short amount of time and in new like condition and low mileage? I mean. You are getting the same product but for significant less money. I could understand buying new if the markup for new was a couple of thousand dollars but honestly its an absurd amount difference. I mean you can objectively get a better car with the same amount of money if you buy used. The car I got was had all of the features like rear view camera and blindspot detection on the more premium trim all for much cheaper than even the cheapest trim with no extra features all because it was used vs new. Why pay more to get less? If I could buy a 3080 used for cheaper than a 3070 why would anyone buy new at that point?

This is exactly why I don't want a newer car. Thousands of things to break in a few years once the warranty is up, then you're dropping tons of money to fix it or the car goes to the scrapyard. ABS I can see, fuel injection I can see, but full vehicle stability and traction control, accident avoidance, lane assist, and etc. just needlessly complicate a vehicle.

Exact same thing happen when GM was forced to make an electric car back in the late 90s. The state of California forced GM to build an electric car as they were trying to get off fossil fuels. GM and Big OIL bitched to Uncle Sam. Uncle Sam told California to take its regulations and stick it some where. 

 

Car companies have lots and lots of influence and money. Not to mention they generally have the support of big oil. Though that could very well be changing due to electric cars becoming more main stream. As @StDragon pointed out, they are "Too big to fail", the government doesn't want to have to bail them out again. So its logical the government would step in and ask politely to have them prioritized. While Covid is still a big things, more and more areas are opening back up. Meaning people are going back to work, not all jobs can be "Work from Home", I for instance work in a warehouse. So that means more people on the roads. I know for a fact there has to be more people on the move because fuel prices have increased. Used to be just under or just over $2 a gallon here in Metro Detroit. Now its like $2.20 a gallon, and people are freaking the fuck out. Im sitting here like SHIT thats the same price gas was when I first started driving. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Honestly car manufacturers can just forgo a radio set and just have a tablet/phone mount on the dashboard instead.

Yes and no. Some people do listen to the radio and not everyone has unlimited cellular data. Also thats not the only "Computer like thing" in a car. Cars now days have many modules that all communicate with each other. So its more than the "Radio" that needs these components.
