Zen3 PBO Questions

Go to solution Solved by AndreiArgeanu,

Precision Boost Overdrive is limited by the boost clock listed on AMD's website and is mentioned by themselves as one of the limiting factors. PBO will not push past the boost clock listed on AMD's website which in this case happens to be 4.6ghz.

Hello good people!

i've seen quite a lot of people on this forum posting about their PBO numbers with the newest Zen3 CPUs. There are quite a few people with 5900X's that claim it will hit 5.0GHz with PBO enabled. (Basically PBO increasing their single-core frequency over stock)

However when i use PBO on my 5600X i see all cores hitting 4.65GHz compared to around 4.2GHz when stock under an all-core load, but no increase in max single core boost over 4.65GHz. Am i doing something wrong or is this normal behavior? (Bascially PBO anly affecting multi-core frequency but leaving single core frequency at stock)

I'm not limited by temps, as i run my CPU in a custom water cooling loop. And my mobo is also not a limiting factor because it's a Asus B550-E, which is a top-tier B550 board. So why is PBO only changing my all-core frequency and not the single core frequency like it does for other people? Or are these people who claim single core gains with PBO just plain lying?

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Thanks for the answer! So basically anyone who claims to have increased single core boost because of PBO is either lying or has some other overclock running.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
