RTX 3080 PSU Recommendation (Seasonic Focus GX-1000 Transient Spikes?)

I already asked in the PSU tierlist thread, but I guess I'll crosspost in a thread. I just got a Gigabyte 3080 Aorus Xtreme coming in the mail and it requires 3 8 pins while recommending 850W (though Nvidia recommends 750W). I currently have an EVGA 750W G3 and I'm not sure if that'll enough considering that 30 series card are known to trip power supply OCP with the high transient spikes. I would prefer to keep the 750W as it's the most economical for me if it is enough (as opposed to dropping close to $200 for a 1000W). However, I am starting to look into the market for 1000W power supplies (if I were to upgrade the 750W, I might as well jump to 1000W instead of 850W to be substantial). 

 

The first one is the Seasonic Focus GX-1000 80+ Gold unit. This one is apparently tier-A in the PSU tierlist, however Seasonic has had a bad track record with some units in this lineup not being able to handle the transient spikes and tripping OCP with some of their units which makes me wary. I am unsure if this unit in particular is affected but it is based off the same units that had issues (Focus Plus/Gold). 

 

The other unit that I am looking is the Super Flower Leadex V Gold PRO 1000W. This is a fairly new PSU but has no reviews whatsoever. It is made by Super Flower, who is the OEM of the G3. I'm not sure if I should just get this one instead (It is $15 more). 

 

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

What are the other specs? If your whole system is pretty efficient a g3 can possibly work.

Oh Yeah I forgot to mention haha. I have a 3950x as CPU using x570 platform.

I have seen no reviews either.

 

I sounds good, but until it is reviewed....you would just be going on good faith.

Yeah, it seems to me that the Seasonic would be a better buy, however since they had issues previously that was known regarding the OCP and transient spikes for Vega and Ampere, I don't know if this unit would experience the same issues (especially since they are based off of the same platform as the Focus Gold/Plus that had issues) .

I don't think it's going to be enough. You can try the g3 has protections so it should be harmless if it trips.

The GX is the updated model that does not have these issues. 

 

If you do not plan to OC you are likely fine with the 750W G3, also a Tier A- PSU.

This would be good news, and a piece of mind for me. I just purchased the Seasonic GX-1000 for a good price yesterday. I hadn't heard of these issues. Where did you read/know about the "GX" not being affected, or "GX being updated model". Is there something on the PSU I could see a date or verison number?

FX is the model with issues.
