The Sony Xperia Pro is a sort of custom version of the Sony Xperia 1 Mark II built for content creators and videographers who need to shoot and upload media on the go.

My thoughts

So this is basically a external recorder and a phone at the same time.

I like this idea you can record or stream with a DSLR without a computer.

I really dislike that it has micro hdmi input but this is a phone so it makes sense

Not really could've just made it usb-c. Micro hdmi is gonna break a lot on those phones.

Usb c can carry a video signal so their capture card would instead of having hdmi just need to have a usb c capture. You can adapt from and to usb c from most as you can basically make it function exactly like a displayport. Would be nice in a version.

After a couple cablebreaks that connector is gonna be shredded if their older devices with it are anything to go by.

It should as it's quite frankly just adapting traces again laptops and tablets can do it no problem why wouldn't a phone be able to. Sure might need some engineering but if this gets a second gen I'd expect it to have that as I see the reviews about port breaking pouring in already. That and if they can do it on usb c they can add it to other phones and make it a thing only sony phones do thus creating a welcome niche in the market that a fair few people would appreciate.

It's a "new" phone as in they finally released it. It was announced almost a year ago. The price is frankly ridiculous.

I highly doubt they'll sell enough of these for it to make financial sense bringing it to market.

It's an awesome phone. Yeah it's expensive and came just now, though it is a pro targeted device of it's consumer version.

Definitely niche for sure, but pretty great features as well as a phone though. Not really for general consumers the regular model is.

I'm waiting Sony to reveal new SD888 based Xperia 1 III now. Wish to see it with mmWave, 120Hz and faster charging this time.
