Gtx 1650 graphics card not recognosing a dvi input??

Go to solution Solved by WhitetailAni,

I never said to buy it.

Just don't use VGA.

Hi, so i have recently bought an dvi to vga adapter for my 1650 graphics card. I have tested the adapter but it works with a GT 710. The problem is when I try and connect the graphics card to the monitor (which has a vga port on) it show no signal. However if i try this with a hdmi it works fine? Any help will be appreciated. Cheers

Edit: I am trying to use a second monitor with the dvi.

I don't think the 1650 (or any other recent GPU) supports the DVI-A standard (needed to passively convert the DVI port to VGA).

You'll need to use an active adapter (probably from Displayport) or get a newer monitor (VGA image quality is horrible, IMHO).

A passive dvi to vga adapter doesn't work on a gtx 1650 they removed that ability. You now need an active adapter to do it. Also why use vga if you can use hdmi? Hdmi is far better with signal quality and image quality.

Then there shouldn't be a problem.

Passive adapters from DVI to VGA require the DVI port to have 4 pins around the flat bar. This port is known as DVI-I.

Most graphics cards with DVI don't have this port anymore, which requires an active converter, typically from DisplayPort or HDMI to VGA.

Also I had the monitor working the other day (using both monitors) but it doesnt work so im not to sure?

The dvi end matches up with the graphics card which doesnt have the 4 little prongs around the big one??

That adapter is fake.

For DVI to passively adapt to VGA, it will need to look like this:

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-DV-I-VGA-Cable-6-Foot/dp/B074DM8BF1

See how the DVI connector has 4 pins around the flat bar?
Without those, DVI doesn't have the analog signals it needs for VGA.

My 1650 doesnt have the space for the 4 pins, I have already bought one of the ones you have sent and it doesn't fit on the graphics card.
