Opinions on DDC Pumps

Hi together,

I'm interested in buying a DDC Pump, one with PWM control and want to ask if someone have some experience with these pumps.

1: Are they reliable?

2: Do they actually need active cooling under their pcb?

3: Do heavy brass tops really reduce vibrations (like the Alphacool Eisdecke, or the one from Phobya)?

4: Is the flow rate higher compared to a D5 at the same noise level?

For the active cooling aspect, I thought of buying a chunk of copper, drill some holes in it with G 1/4 threads and connect the pump bottom case in my cooling loop.

Hi, thanks, i read this ,but I'm looking for some personal experience with these pumps. I already own a Aquacomputer D5 next.

I have a DDC in use. I had a D5 before, but switched to a distro plate that could only fit a DDC.

- Can't yet say how reliable it is. It's been working for 4 months now without making any kind of weird noise or other issues.

- While it IS creating more heat than a D5 it doesn't need active cooling. It's cooled by the water it pumps, like a D5.

- Mine doesn't have any vibration issues.

- I've set both my D5 i had and the DDC i have now to the same noise level. Both run at around 1600RPM for my ideal noise level and my component temps are exactly the same. So i'd say both have pretty much the same performance at the same noise. What i did notice: At higher RPM it is louder than a D5 at the same RPM. But i wouldn't run either of those at high RPM as pump noise is easily the most distracting noise coming from a PC. Both the D5 and DDC run completely silent (inaudible) at 1600RPM (about 25% PWM) in my case.

Conclusion: DDC or D5 does not make a difference for me. Be it for performance or noise.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
