GSX 1000 16kHZ Max Microphone Sample Rate?

tlhmaz

I have the GSP 600 and recently brought the GSX 1000 and realized that my microphone quality was horrible. I checked the specs and the format and saw that it was stuck at 1.0: 16 kHz @ 16-bit. Why would a $250 DAC have such a bad Tape Recorder Quality bit rate and how can I fix this? Even my onboard sound card is better.

Did you go through the control panel to the audio settings? Should be able to change it in there.  When I got my DX7 4 years ago I had to find some kind of driver but for the life of me I can't give you any usable information on that because it was so long ago and now it just installs properly.

There is nothing I can change in control panel, sound card settings just brings me to playback.

I know, but this one is grayed out since it is the max bit rate.

wow, would never think you'd need to check that.  Just get an extension and run it onboard or return the thing if you can.  You can do a lot better with $250

Yes, I was thinking about it but if I run it split then I going have big grounding issues and static.

Jesus, at a 16kHz sampling rate, you aren't going to get sound above 8kHz. We can hear to 20kHz.

For whatever god damn reason, Sennheiser seems to think that a 16kHz sampling rate is totally fine.

image.png.e3bebd5e2206cacf310a953ead7932c8.png

If the device only supports 16kHz sampling rate, then you can't really do much. The ADC physically cannot handle more than a 16kHz sample rate.

Quite frankly, 16kHz is unacceptable for any ADC. You want 44.1kHz/16 bit at the minimum. 48kHz/24 bit+ is preferable.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

They dodged that question so perfectly it's almost as though the person answering is entirely aware that 16khz sucks ass......

It is astonishing how no reviews mention this.
