[Q] RAM upgrade - 8GBx4 or 16GBx2

edchuu

Hi ya'll!

I need some help with deciding how to upgrade my RAM. I have a Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit and wanted to upgrade to 32GB. I went on Amazon and bought a second pair of the same RAM so i could run 4 sticks rather than 2. I had some issues with it posting until i found the right settings. A couple of months down the line i installed Warzone and Valorant and noticed I was getting frequent crashes. I then found out that Corsair had 2 versions of their CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 (samsung and Hynix) and that was why i was getting these crashes.

TL DR: i cannot return my RAM sticks and I am now deciding if I should get another 2 sticks of 16GB to have 4x8GB or 2 sticks of 16GB. PS I have an ASROCK AB350 Pro4, Ryzen 3600 and I am reaching 100% utilization on my ram while gaming + other stuff.

Better to go the 2x 16GB route.

Less stress / load on the CPU's Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) compared to 4x sticks.

Also, give you the option to go beyond 32GB (if you need to).

Warzone is really buggy game...BUT how are maxing out your RAM?

Are you streaming as well?

I'm running the game on max'ed out settings at 1080p, and I cap out at ~14GB.

Hmmm 16gb should be plenty, what do you have running in the background (if at all?).  I would recommend getting a 2x16gb kit, as right now there's really no point going with four sticks as quad-channel for mainstream cpus isn't a thing, You'd be occupying all your dimm slots, ect. I do believe that 16 gig modules are dual-rank, so another reason not to go with 4 sticks, basically 16x2 is just the better option with way more pros than going 4x8, however pretty it may look.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

I dont know 😰. Maybe because i am too lazy to close all my excels or maybe I am the greatest bug finder in all of Warzone (i swear i have encountered every way to crash that game)

Welp thank you all. I am probably gonna get that 16GBx2
