I am still alive and I'm back.

marknd59

You may or may not have noticed that I have not been around for the last few weeks the reason is the 1 thing  was sure was going to happen didn't  and I am still here to tell the tale. Due to my condition I was pretty sure that if I got Covid I would be dead in a matter of days and I have been in total lock-down since March, only ever going out for medical appointments, seems I was wrong and am a bit tougher than I thought I was. Back on November 13th I started to have seizures due to brain swelling from a round of Stereotactic radiotherapy that resulted in me spending 7 days in hospital and it looks like that is when I got covid, kind of ironic that after all I had done to avoid getting Covid I get infected in a hospital but the timeline is right and that is were I was when I got it. Fast forward to November 29th 5:00am I wake up unable to stop coughing and hardly able to get a breath of air, Brenda calls ambulance and off I go.

I can honestly say that the next 2 weeks were the most horrific of my life with me thinking all the time that my next breath could be my last. The Drs thought I was about to die 3 different times as that is how many times they called Brenda to tell her she could come in to say a last goodbye if she wanted to. I have no idea how or why I made it but I did and they eventually got be stable and on a slow and long road recovery. After another 2 weeks, during which time I got a case of pneumonia and had some blood clots form in my lung they decided I was out of danger and transferred me to a different hospital to start me on a long road of rehab to free up my bed for more urgent cases.

3 weeks in the second hospital to set me on the road to recovery and they let me out on 22nd Jan. after fitting out the flat with a lot of gear to help me be able to move around and get things done. After spending so long in bed I am as weak as a kitten and have lost around 25lbs. It's going to be weeks yet before I am anything like recovered, at the moment just walking 10 or 12 steps using a zimmer frame has me panting for breath and totally exhausted it's going to take me a long time to get over this.

Anyway I'm still alive and I'm back I just wanted you all to know why I'd been MIA for a few weeks.

Sorry to hear, but this isn't tech topic, nor topic about Folding or BOINC. In future such personal updates should be treated as any personal updates. Posted as Status Updates which are our version of social media.

@LogicalDrm Mark is a member of our Folding Team and while this post may not meet the normal criteria for posting in the Folding thread these are anything but normal times and Mark has been a great help to the Team and his journey throughout these days is one example of why the LTT team has grown in size in response tho COVID from 13th to 2nd place in under a year and why so many people continue to dedicate their gaming rigs to helping to find a cure.

@marknd59 wow, that must have been terrifying. My wife is a Elementary School Teacher with congenital lung defects and my family has been hyper vigilant these days as a result. I'm glad to hear you are better and on the road to recovery.

The rules apply same to everyone. This is personal stuff, not directly tech related, nor directly related to subforum. So best place is Status Updates.
