#FacebookDisabledMe Facebook permbans tens of thousands of innocent accounts on Jan 22.

farrellj

High, yesterday I was sitting waiting for my roommate to come out of the grocery store where I had driven him, and went to check my Facebook. It had logged me out for some reason, and when I logged back in, it told me that my account had be deactivated! I had to wait until I got home to check more into it...Facebook stated that I had violated it's community rules...so I started the appeal process, and when I clicked to enter it, it said:

"We Cannot Review the Decision to Disable Your Account
Your Facebook account was disabled because it did not follow our Community Standards. This decision can’t be reversed."

I don't post nudes, or anti-vaccine stuff, not calls to war over the American election or things like that. My posts are pretty clean...my grade school niece reads my account...I am *not* going to post anything that would upset her, or my sister, her mother!!! I also run the fan pages for two Canadian rock bands, so again, I am going to be posting InfoWar garbage in my postings. I had been given a 30 day ban in November, again for no reason.

At first, I though that I might have been hacked, as I received an email from a health professional who has been treating me, and thus is a trusted source, a it was a PDF of a fax...clicking on it sent me to a Office365 account. Kind of weird. I didn't think much of it, figuring that I had received it in mistake. Generally, Thunderbird running on Linux is pretty foolproof against most commonly distributed malware. So I though that maybe when I had clicked on it to see the PDF, and it brought up that website, something had hacked my browser, since I was also logged into Facebook at the time, and then they went on to post something nasty on my Facebook account, which resulted in my ban. And I started pursuing that angle, contacting a friend of mine who specializes in InfoSec stuff...something I dabble in, but my friend's whole business is about it.

That was yesterday, Jan 22. Today, I decided to start posting about this over on twitter, and see if anyone had some suggestions on how to get my account back. And  that is where i found the #facebookdisabledme hashtag. This led me to the Facebook subreddit via googling the hashtag. There I found lots of people who had been logged out of their Facebook accounts on the 22nd, and upon re-logging in, were told they had  been banned for community violations. Since then I have seen many others who were banned...some Libertarian though they had been banned for being libertarian, Socialists though they had been banned for being socialist...Bitcoin people thought....you get the idea. I'll link to some of their stories below..

So it seems that *something* has been happening at Facebook...some people theorize it might have been a hacking of Facebook, or some screw-up in their algorithms. I don't know what it is, but I thin k that this story has to get out to try and get Facebook to fix this, otherwise they will just sweep it under the rug, because they don't care about tens (hundeds?) of thousands of users when they have over a billion and a half of them.

I have a great solution. Don't use facebook.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

Ha. Ha.
If so many of my family and friends were not there, I would gladly move somewhere else. I am on a number of other platforms, but as I said, so many of my family members and friends are on Facebook, I spend the most of my time there. But I am also on Reddit, twitter, Dreamwidth, Slashdot.org, a number of Discord servers, etc.

Ahh thats pretty bad man.

Try emailing facebook support to see if they can do anything because we cannot help in another way.

Been there, done that. 😞 I am just hoping to get the story out so that others know they were not singled out, and that Facebook has a problem.

Well, it seems that Facebook has corrected it's mistake, and I have access to my account again! I am still keeping the other social media accounts I opened, just to keep some backups. I wonder if we will ever hear what happened with Facebook!
