Upgrade from rtx 3080 to rtx 3090 dropped FPS.

Natrina

Hi guys. I just upgraded

From zotac rtx 3080 amp holo black

To

Upgraded to MSI rtx 3090 suprim X

I was expecting to have a FPS boost

Of at least 10 percent. COD WARZONE.

BUT  instead of FPS going up.

It went down !

180 to 200 fps ( rtx 3080)

( After MSI afterburner)

160 to 190 FPS ( rtx 3090)

( After MSI afterburner )

Settings are set excatly the same in game.

I did ddu to reinstall drivers after changing the card . I also changed PCI type to gen 4

I updated my window / MB bios too.

Nothing works ! My fps is still lower

Than when I was using rtx 3080 zotac !

I tried doing benchmark and my score

With rtx 3090 is higher than rtx 3080!

By around 2000 score. The problem only happens when I go play in games.

I also noticed that my gpu usage is around 60 to 75 percent when I'm in cod warzone.

( Using MSI rtx 3090 suprim )70~80degree

My current full build is

Mb - x570 Aorus master

Cpu - ryzen 9 5900x

Gpu - MSI suprim X rtx 3090

Ram - gskill trident z neo 3600mhz 16x2 (32gb ) total.

Ssd - Samsung Evo plus 970 1tb

Hhd - 1 tb Toshiba

Psu - seasonic focus gx 850w

Fully Gold modular .

Thank u guys for reading to the end .

I really need help on this . I tried everything I can and nothing helps. Hope I can find some answers here. Thank u !

Cod warzone requires a beefy cpu over gpu, upgrading your gpu at some point no longer provides a gain in fps.

Knowing that, there might be something in the background using more cpu causing your fps to drop.

CPU: Intel core i7-8086K Case: CORSAIR Crystal 570X RGB CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO RGB Storage: Samsung 980 Pro - 2TB NVMe SSD PSU: EVGA 1000 GQ, 80+ GOLD 1000W, Semi Modular GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 GAMING X 8G RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200mhz Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming

There was no reason to upgrade from 3080 to 3090  10% difference does not make any real world difference or gives you an advantage in online games

Questionable logic "upgrading" in search of 5-10% FPS for hundreds of extra dollars.

1) Using all of your channels of RAM will help you gain more FPS. (Hardware Unboxed video shows this, but to lazy to look it up)

2) Check your power management in windows 10. Make sure nothing changed.

3) Drivers need to be updated. (I cannot update to the latest one, failed to install, but if you can try it)

4) Try to increase your GPU fan speed to maximum, and see if there are any changes with FPS.

You have a lot to try. Let me know how it goes.

U say no reason then proceeds to say it's 10% faster...?

It's up to op to think if it's worth it, and I don't think this have anything to do with diagnosing the issue

As for OP, is it the exact same scenario or slightly different scenario?

How's GPU and CPU usage like(individual cores)?

At those fps I would expect CPU bound to be an issue over GPU bound, so upgrading GPU might not improve things

You could try a consistent benchmark like timespy to determine if there's truly a drop in performance

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

You have to read all the post, talking part of the post out of context changes the meaning and give you the opportunity to nag.

A 10% increase is almost undetectable, anything above 60 is very much playable, people with a 1050 will still be able to kick your ass.

You gain nothing if you go from 180FPS to 200FPS its just a placebo effect and vanity, your skills in online games don't automatically transform and you became and unstoppable killing machine with godlike powers.

There is no problem here because the OP can play every game out there with a 3090 10-20 FPS difference over 100 means nothing. If he was not looking at the statistics of the game he would not even notice it. As I said upgrading from 3080 to 3090 was not a wise move and just a way to burn money getting nothing in return.

I also upgrade due to work .

It has been working great with my work.

I see big difference in 3080 to 3090 while working. But for warzone I don't see any improvements all  I see is fps dropping.

I just wanna know why a 3090 suprim X

Is not doing better compared to a 3080 zotac amp holo black..  really hope someone can help me out.thanks..
