is it dying because of the fact that the thing is over 10 years old or is the hard drive failing in general

You say TVs as in plural?  Disconnect all but one and try booting up.

i have 1 tv and another tv which is used as an actual tv i only have 1 tv connected to my pc (sry for the confusion)
