Barring some very recent developments, anything mobile is almost certainly edge lit. The terminology for backlight also applies to edge lit panels, because the diffuser distributes the light from the back of the display. 
 

The terms you’re probably looking for are full-array or direct-lit, where the LEDs sit directly behind the LCD. For thinner devices, this isn’t terribly feasible as you require a lot more emitters within a given area to achieve smooth distribution of light.
