Looks like a dying GFX card

Cpu: i5-8400

gpu: rx550 2G

When I get to the windows sign in page there is some artifacting for a couple of seconds then it goes away. On the desktop there is no artifacting at first but after a couple minutes with chrome and word open the screen goes like this.

Some times I get a blue screen with the error code: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE

Also sometimes the amd software pops up with something mentioning a driver timeout.

I decided that the drivers may be the issue so I downloaded ddu and ran it in safe mode. After I ran ddu on  the pc I installed the latest amd drivers and the pc worked until windows update installed the driver. I ran ddu on the pc again with all networking off and the same thing happened again. So I downloaded Ubuntu onto a bootable usb and it worked in graphics safe mode but in the regular mode it looked like this.

Is this gpu dead or is this still a software problem? The bios is updated and windows is also updated. It is not the monitor causing the issue.

Seems strange that the gpu died after 2 years. It has never been used for gaming or mining.

I had a GTX 660 that died the same way, no gaming, no OCing, well cooled. It was just time.

The pc was a HP prebuilt you think I could argue and get the gpu replaced? Its out of warranty though.

In my professional experience dealing with HP, I can say "good luck!"

But it never hurts to ask, the worst they will say is "no"
