How did you guys save up for your PC?

Go to solution Solved by lani100,

Work, Repair some stuff for family and friends and ask some money for the jobs and I buy some used hardware and build computers and sell them with a llittle profit.

My first ever PC was bought by my parents for work and I ended up using it. The second one was a birthday gift back in 2008, a beast of a PC. The third one (laptop - current) I saved up for over a period of a year from my birthday, christmas, and so on.. The next PC budget is nonexistent for a simple reason, I give all my hard earned money to my parents so can pay my tuition fees. Right now I'm looking at my options to try to save a little, so I can build something next year or maybe I'll give that money to my parents as well.

Since I am good with my hands my dad gave me like $300 to build a prototype for a cool idea he had. I also got like $120 last Christmas (spent that on a 750 Ti), and now I've been applying to different jobs so I can save up like at least a grand to get into some high end stuff.

I'm actually saving up on transport. I used to pay around €110 - €120 per month, now it's just €55 so i manage to set aside €65 each month. I've already got €130. :D

Work, get payed, put aside money for bills and such, don't buy unnecessary items, repeat. Do these steps each week and you too can afford your (reasonable) dream rig.

Hey fellow tech heads, I have a simple question for you guys. How did you guys save up for you PC? By that I mean did you have a part time job and save 20% or did you walk the dog and saved forever? I'm looking for ideas to buy some computer parts. I'm almost going be in jail for murder with this crappy laptop. Thanks!

I worked full time summer jobs and spent very little during high school and first year university to save up for my rig. It's definitely not easy if you have a lot of ongoing expenses.

Git Gud.

Basically just took it from the budget I set aside for something else because the last one broke.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

First pc I bought myself was a decomissioned one from my workplace. It was crap but really cheap so month later I sold it for about 100 Eur profit. I was a first year student at that time with part time job so did not have a lot of money but still built something decent.

Next summer I spent in US&A and worked at Walmart. I didn't spend a lot so by the end of summer I bought a laptop and some other things. I used it for about 6 months or so but sold it because it was too heavy to carry around. I sold my old desktop too and built quite good gaming pc. Used this pc for several years with minor upgrades.

Many parts are still in use - Antec P183 case which I used to build pc for my parents and from other parts I built htpc (had to buy only fanless PSU and Fractal Design 605 case).

Now it is much easier to save up. Working as a consultant (Oracle ERP) for a big corporation helps a lot  :D

So my last pc (in signature) was pretty much built with parts I wanted and not restricted by budget that much (on reasonable level).
