Guest
Go to solution Solved by lani100,

Work, Repair some stuff for family and friends and ask some money for the jobs and I buy some used hardware and build computers and sell them with a llittle profit.

Save up? I'm still paying for it

Work, get payed, put aside money for bills and such, don't buy unnecessary items, repeat. Do these steps each week and you too can afford your (reasonable) dream rig.

As a college student, I had to just buy parts when I had money. Just chip away at it.

Hey fellow tech heads, I have a simple question for you guys. How did you guys save up for you PC? By that I mean did you have a part time job and save 20% or did you walk the dog and saved forever? I'm looking for ideas to buy some computer parts. I'm almost going be in jail for murder with this crappy laptop. Thanks!

I worked full time summer jobs and spent very little during high school and first year university to save up for my rig. It's definitely not easy if you have a lot of ongoing expenses.

Git Gud.

Basically just took it from the budget I set aside for something else because the last one broke.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

First pc I bought myself was a decomissioned one from my workplace. It was crap but really cheap so month later I sold it for about 100 Eur profit. I was a first year student at that time with part time job so did not have a lot of money but still built something decent.

Next summer I spent in US&A and worked at Walmart. I didn't spend a lot so by the end of summer I bought a laptop and some other things. I used it for about 6 months or so but sold it because it was too heavy to carry around. I sold my old desktop too and built quite good gaming pc. Used this pc for several years with minor upgrades.

Many parts are still in use - Antec P183 case which I used to build pc for my parents and from other parts I built htpc (had to buy only fanless PSU and Fractal Design 605 case).

Now it is much easier to save up. Working as a consultant (Oracle ERP) for a big corporation helps a lot  :D

So my last pc (in signature) was pretty much built with parts I wanted and not restricted by budget that much (on reasonable level).

Considering your age, getting a job at Macdonald's is a great idea OP. If that doesn't work out do lawn mowing/gardening for your local area. People pay good money to keep their lawns looking nice. Most important thing is to set aside a certain amount of your earnings towards your PC each pay. You'll have enough for a build in no time. Even if you just start small and upgrade over time which is what I've done.

Hell, im still running a 2011 Sandy bridge i7 2600 CPU and an old school 1155 socket motherboard. But im upgrading my GPU to a GTX 970 and getting a 250gb SSD. Its not the best upgrade in the world but you cant always have the very best of everything all the time.

Good luck with your build :)

I sold my old stuff on ebay like xbox, xbox games, the old oculus rift and the old oculus went for $700!!!!! When I ran out of stuff to sell, I sold my parents stuff... xD... They were confused as some of there stuff went missing as I dropped them off at the post office coming back from school. Thats how I basically paid for my Beast.
