I need help about using G-Sync/FreeSync and HDR together with display port or hdmi

Hello everyone,

 

Recently I've been looking for a monitor that has high refresh rate, g-sync, IPS panel and HDR features. But I'm confused when it comes to using all of these features at the same time.

 

Example: https://www.asus.com/Displays-Desktops/Monitors/TUF-Gaming/TUF-Gaming-VG259QM/

 

In the link above, the specifications are all great and it seems like everything is okay. But it also says that it has DisplayPort 1.2 version alongside HDMI 2.0. So I know that HDMI 2.0 supports 240 hz and HDR but does it support G-sync/Freesync ? On the other hand if I use DisplayPort 1.2, it supports 240 hz and g-sync.freesync but this time HDR is not supported because it is not a DP1.4.

 

Do I miss something, or how can I work this around ?

Version numbers aren't real specs, they are just sort of casual shorthands, and their usage various from company to company, so you can't really determine feature support based on DP version numbers. ASUS may just be using "DP 1.2" to indicate it supports HBR2 speed (which is all that is needed for 1080p 240 Hz).
