Computer won't shut down. At all.

Lightning_Mike

Hi everyone!

I've recently upgraded my PSU because my old one was causing my computer to shut down randomly. That doesn't happen anymore, but now, every time I try to shut it down/send it to sleep, it boots right back up. I tried resetting the BIOS, and that worked... once. Any idea what might be the culprit/how to fix it?

Here's my PC configuration:

CPU: i5-6500

RAM: 2x HyperX 8GB DDR4

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

Storage:

1x Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

1x WDC 1TB 7200RPM

1x Velociraptor 180GB 10000RPM

PSU: be quiet! System Power 9 600W

I've had the same issue, and it turns out it was the PSU causing it.

Switched it out and haven't had the issue since.

I have the exact same problem! I need to hard shut down the pc in order for it to shut down. Every time I let it shut down the regular way, it starts right up again! Is it a PSU Problem?

Please tell me if you have fixed the issue its really upsetting.

I doubt it's one of these... The computer powers up right after I shut it down. <5 seconds after all lights in the case go out, it starts again. If I send it to sleep, it won't even last that long in a power down state as it will turn back on before the PSU cuts the power to the components

that's why you should investigate with the lastwake command.

This is what it churned out:

>powercfg -lastwake
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
  Wake Source Count - 0

Have you reseted the CMOS

Yup. It worked for just one shutdown. After manually turning it on and back off again it started the cycle again.

Faulty power button? Gonna seem random, unplug the power switch from the mobo then try to turn it off. Then try to short the power pins with a screwdriver if you are willing to. That should turn it back on "Manually". If that works, unplug system from wall, and THEN reinstall the connecter.

Soooo the Event Viewer reported "Unknown" as the wake source. Neat.

have you been in contact with the OEM/manifacturer?

Not as of yet, but now I'm seriously thinking about it.

Doesn't look like faulty power button behavior to me. It's not random. It happens after shutdown with clockwork accuracy. 3-5 seconds after powering down it springs back up. Gonna try it, though.

well, did you miss the post that said it was the psu...?

while it sounds weird, it also makes sense (hence windows has no idea what's going on either)

Get in contact with Bequiet or the seller and see what they say (at least Bequiet should know what's going on, hopefully!)
