500 watt power supply good for zotac 1080 amp edition?

Hello, i recently bought a 1080 zotac amp edition gpu and i just realized that i only have a 500 watt power supply and was wondering if it's good enough? The brand of it is RX-500 XT and I also have a i5-9400F

It'll probably turn on and work but reviews say that power supply is pretty bad, so I would personally upgrade it if possible.

While 500W is enough, that Raidmax unit is not particularly good.

I recommend Tier B at the very least. A 450W unit would suffice. I used a Corsair SF450, with an R7 1700 and GTX 1080 for a long time and never drew more than 350W under heavy workloads. 

 

If on a budget something like a Corsair CX/CXm would be a good choice.

500W should be more than fine, but that PSU is absolute garbage, so you should replace it. Where are you buying from?

It came with the pc i bought from a friend but im worried about something bad happening

I'd recommend either the Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro 550w or the Corsair CX 550w but you could go with a Corsair CX 450w on Newegg for $45 (on sale right now) since the 9400F is a locked chip and doesn't draw a lot of power, while the Zotac AMP 1080 only draws up to 270w using FurMark (closer to 200w while gaming)

The CX450 only has a single PCIe 8-pin connector though, no?

500W would be borderline imo, especially if it is a Raidmax unit. I would suggest for you to start considering upgrading it to a better quality unit at least 600W.

on Amazon comments it says that it has 2x 6+2pin, but not that i trust those.

 

anyway @GhoulBunnie you are fine with decent 450-550w unit.

The non-modular CX 450W has a single PCI-E 6+2 connector.

However, the CXM 450W has two PCI-E 6+2 connections.
