does this monitor support 2k over display port?

2k is 2048x1080. I believe you mean 1440p? I believe it should support it on either hdmi or dp, unless you have a *really* old cable. 

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

basically, i got 2 of these and only 1 of them is working in 2560x1440. The one that is connected via HDMI. I have a display to HDMI cord  i am using on the second and its only getting 2048x1152

Then it's likely the adapter, try without one

Yeah. It ended up being the old cord. All good now with new display port cords
