CPU low watt usage on 100% load (Freezing)

right.

so i think i found the problem , i lowered the GPU Clock from 1290 Mhz to 1200 Mhz.  For some reason my RX 480 while using Furmark needed 180 W to reach 1290 Mhz and now to reach 1200Mhz it uses 140 W.

Hello guys,

my pc keeps freezing when playing games and sometimes when browsing it reboots. I have changed ssd's , gpu , ram , motherboard but nothing worked.

Looking at HWMonitor my CPU MAX wattage use is 48.40 W,  when i run a stress test with prime 95 it does not go over 48 W and then the PC freezes.

Shouldn't the power consumption be around 125 W for my AMD FX 8350 at full load?

When using prime95 my PC freezes and reboots. But when gaming it freezes and does not reboot.

Any ideas?

My specs:

CPU :  AMD FX-8350

GPU:  RX 480

Motherboard:  ASRock 760gm-hdv

RAM:  HyperX DDR3 16GB (Kit 2X 8GB) 1866MHz

Operating System: Windows 10 pro

In the picture, the Cpu is idle, so no the wattage won't be 125w.

If the board has LLC function, remove it from auto and manually set it. These chips are notorious for low volt hangs.

Hey , @ShrimpBrime

i did not find a function in my BIOS named LLC.

i tried setting the voltage manually to 1.375v but that did not help.

Beneath is a picture while running prime95.

no wonder it's freezing... maybe stop throwing ice on it can so it warm up a little bit?

Seriously, what is up with those temps?? 👀

FX temps are inaccurate anything below 40-45c. The temp algorithm is for shit on these chips. But they do love the cold and volts.

It might be spelled out. LLC stands for Load Line calibration.

Being a 760G chipset, a base model board, it may not have that function come to think of it. This chipset was never really meant to support FX chips. Not sure why they did that.

I had the ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 before , i changed the mobo thinking it will solve the problem..

Nope, totally Cpu issue. The 990FX Crosshair V Z even had a hard time with the FX-9590 which also super common hang issues with that chip. It so loved v-core. I did a write up on it years ago at OCF actually.

I would check that the HT and NB speeds and voltages are set correctly also. You can bump the mem voltage a touch, but I don't think that will help.

I'd go back to the 990FX board. It will have a better OC feature set and VRMs capable of handling the higher wattage loads.

ok, thanks for the info , so you wouldnt say it is a PSU issue but rather a CPU one , right ?

That sort of makes sense - RX 480s are notorious for overdrawing from the PCIe slot, so it may have been causing the board to freak out because of that.
