DDoS attack... oh... what are we on now?

WhitetailAni

Browser, version and OS: Chrome OS latest

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

Going to see what Varnic said on the Madison thread

What happened?

I got the "DDoS is happening" screen, e.g. "We were unable to complete your request due to high server load".

What did you expect to happen?

The thread to load.

Link to a page where it happened, if applicable:

Screenshots of the issue, if applicable:

Any other relevant details:

The home page worked fineish but no threads would load

If it's a cloudflare error, what was the ray ID from the bottom of the error page?

THE SUN WILL BURN US ALL

I'll never understand how people can think there's no form of notification of a DDoS before someone makes a thread...lol

Cloudflare probably informed Mortis they were absorbing abnormal traffic loads before the forum got overloaded.

When the forum goes down due to a DDoS I get about 6 different alerts (based on different metrics, thresholds and mediums) notifying me, and some automation kicks in to mitigate it. Once you're able post a topic complaining about it, it's already very much under control.

I still can't fathom what anyone has to gain by DDOSing a tech forum?

Mostly, I suspect, they get satisfaction from reading topics like this.

The real fetish is the people who love to post-farm from DDoS attacks on a forum.

Maybe one or two topics, in a seldom used sub-section of a tech forum with users that are aware and knowledgeable of these attacks. Not exactly exposure central.

I have to question the intellect of the individuals that perpetrates these DDoS attacks. Surely, they could find some place more entertaining to bring down than LTT? Gross lack of creativity, really.

Idea:
No more "Forum got DDoSed!" posts and see if they lessen.

Considering how old the "Don't feed the trolls" -meme already is, I doubt things will change. There are always people who aren't smart enough to not take the bait.
