CPU is underperforming and BIOS is not saving setings in windows. CPU: i9 10850k

Chromo

CPU: i9 10850k
MB: Asus ROG Strix z490f
Cooling: Corsair H115i Platinum
PSU: Corsair RM850x
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz

When trying to overclock my settings is not applied or saved in windows.

I use Intel XTU for monitoring and it's all at default when i get logged in. and the BIOS settings are not applied.

I did try to OC with XTU and it was working well. 5ghz on all cores stable and below 90c when running Prime95.

When running tests in 3dmark, my CPU is clearly under performing about 2000 points, for some reason. Support from, 3dmark looked at my results and confirmed that something is not right with CPU.

My CPU is not throttling, temp is never above 70c during 3dmark and not above 87 when stress testing with XTU.

I have updated to the latest bios. v.1003.

All is working well otherwise.

Anyone have a clue about what the issue could be?

Try again without the overclock.

Thank you for your input.

Well no, of course not. But it is a way to measure the performance VS similar systems.

With such a great gap something is not right. It is a good way to figure out that something is wrong. Might be a Bios setting, have had the latest builds on Asus motherboards and i am familiar with them, still can be some setting that i have not done right. First build on Z490.

I have also been following several OC guides, but my problem is that the BIOS settings does not save. That is my initial issue, on top of that my CPU is under performing.

My first thought would be - are you trying to overclock a fresh build without first seeing if you NEED to overclock it?

EDIT:

Are you overclocking to levels that your individual components CAN handle, or are you praying that what you have is top level silicon-lottery winning parts?

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Update the BIOS,seems like it's buggy.

That says, to me, that something about the core build isn't happy & you're just adding to that but pushing something 'unstable' too far.

I can't overclock it... read the Topic :)

It is possible with software, but i am not interested in that.

Win boots up at default BIOS settings.

I'm always surprised at this mentality as well.

Win boots up at default BIOS settings.

So; you don't have a stable base system & already you want to overclock... why?

It's not unstable its at default settings... Its not unstable at OC.

I did OC with software just to see if it was possible. I it is. The CPU is not broken, my guess is something in BIOS, just can't figure out what.

Software doesn't guarantee to overwrite the BIOS... where (CPU) overclocking SHOULD be done.

EDIT:

By the way... just because one person has managed to get the same set of hardware you have to overclock to a 'nice level' doesn't guarantee that you will, at least without hours & hours of heartache.

Reset your bios to original settings, don't use XTU, and try again.

If the results are normal you have messed up the overclock.

Overclock is very easy to mess up and wrong settings can lead to worse performance and blue screens / restarts

It is cool  and stable.

Thats not my problem at all.

BIOS settings does not save, and at default my CPU under performs about 30%, my guess it is a BIOS setting, but i can't make one because Win boots with BIOS settings at default. That is my problem.

Unless you make the changes IN THE BIOS, &/or you don't F10 out of the BIOS... they won't save.

As said above... update the BIOS to the newest version you 'board's site offers.

I understand the mentality, overclocking is a hobby for me,and i do like squeezing every last drop of performance i can.

I have 800MHz overclock on the CPU,266MHz on the RAM,200MHz on the GPU,and 1GHz overclock on the VRAM.

I used XTU just to try it out...  My problem is BIOS settings does not apply in win. My goal is not to OC at all, but to get ti working at correct performance, something is holding it back, my guess a bios setting, and a cant make one :)

Do you know how to get into the BIOS of your motherboard...?

That's a good one, without a battery the settings will reset every time you reboot after applying them.
