Suggestions on parts for a new PC build from a 2500K!

Budget (including currency): Approx $2000 CAD (less the better of course)

Country: CANADA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Will be an all around PC with some gaming. Not hardcore gaming though

Other details: ill be overclocking the system. I do not care about RGB or any looks because the PC will be under the desk in the corner.

Current old PC build:

Intel i5 2500k
Asus P8P67 Pro
8GB G.Skill 1600mhz
Asus 7970 GPU
Crucial MX500 250GB SSD
2TD Seagate HDD
Corsair HX750W
Corsair 800D
27" QNIX IPS
Windows 10

What I gathered for my new upcoming PC build

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5600X (Purchased)
COOLER: Noctua NH-D15S
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO V2
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3600Mhz
GPU: Unknown Video Card
POWER SUPPLY: Corsair RMx 750W (Purchased)
Unknown case (I haven't decided)

Any recommendations on what mid-tier GPU to get?

Any other recommendations on the parts I have chosen? Is the MSI TOMAWHAWK board better than what i have picked?
Should i reuse my SSD as my main drive or just go get a NVME for the new build?

Thanks for reading and your comments on my new PC build

A mid-tier GPU that would go perfectly is the upcoming RTX 3060 or RTX 3060ti or if you can manage it within your budget, an RTX 3070. I'm not sure how pricing looks like in Canada right now so you'll have to have a look.

I would suggest looking at this video to see the best board for your budget:

I think an NVME would be a nice luxury to have in a $2k build. I would say you can reuse the HDD for mass storage and use the SSD (I'm guessing it's SATA) as a drive for your favourite games.

Apart from that, as long as you get a case with good airflow that can fit all your parts, then you will be fine.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

Please clarify, have you bought the NH-D15S, B550 Aorus Pro V2, and LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3600?

No I have not purchased those yet but willing to change those options if there are better parts.

Only purchased the CPU and the PSU as i mentioned in the OP.

Oh I see. In that case, I would say get a cheaper cooler. The NH-D15S is kind of overkill for the Ryzen 5 5600x. The RAM is probably fine, as long as it's not more expensive than 3200mhz cl16.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

I'll take a look at other coolers.

The difference in price for 3200mhz to 3600mhz is about $10-$15.

I would say that's fine, as long as it's not $30 more or something. For coolers, the NH-U12S may be a good option, or the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (black edition if you want it to look a bit nicer.)

The 5600X is a 65W TDP part, an NH-D15S is much more than needed for cooling.

Consider a basic but decent motherboard.

Consider a basic gpu. Fine for light gaming, not terribly expensive.

The case I suggest is a bit pricy. I've always found it worth investing in a decent case. The model I've suggested supports the motherboard's usb-c header and is designed for quiet operation.

I'd suggest a new 1TB NVMe drive. Not terribly expensive with room to grow.

Is that board a good enough for overclocking?
