RGB not lighting Hyper 212 Evo RGB

MrMikeoxsmall

I recently installed a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo RGB black edition, and connected the rgb fan cable to the 12 v rgb header on my motherboard properly (the arrow was pointing to the 12v header upon installation).

On bootup it is lighting briefly and then turns off and I can't control the rgb on the cooler master fan.

Everything else works fine, even my Argb system fan on the back.

I have tried my (Prebuilt Lenovo) PC's lighting control on CPU fan and it does not light up.

There is a RGB controller included, but it cannot connect to my pc as I only have SATA and it requires Molex and the external RGB controller hub from cooler master is pretty expensive.

Can you please help me find a solution to this?

The lighting software I use is Lenovo Vantage. I have tried iCUE and Jack RGB but they don't light it up either.

Specs:

i7 - 10700

Lenovo RTX 2070 Super

Lenovo stock Mobo

FSP 80+ Gold PSU

Lenovo Gaming Ram 2 x 8 GB

Cooler Master Black edition RGB

You have a single wire from the fan plugged in? Any actual RGB Fan will have two leads coming off it

What is the model of your Lenovo Gaming PC.

You first need to 110% confirm that the RGB header on the Lenovo motherboard is compatible with the RGB connector on the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO RGB.

The controller + fan is powered using a 4-pin Molex from the PSU.

I'm surprised your power supply doesn't have any Molex connections.

Even 2020 / 2021 made power supplies you can buy from retailers still have 1 or 2 Molex connections.

If you truly only have SATA, you can get a SATA-to-Molex adapter.;

They are like $2 on Amazon.

Thank you for your helpful answer.

Is there any other way to access the controls via the current RGB header it is plugged into?

PC: Lenovo Legion T5

I'll need to check if the RGB header on the motherboard is "standard" RGB, or some custom Lenovo RGB header.

If it is a "standard" header, it SHOULD work.

If you plug the fan into the header, it is controller by the header / motherboard.

The RGB fan itself is brainless; what you plug it into is what controls it.

The CoolerMaster fan (SF120 RGB) is a standard 4-pin RGB fan.

image.png.f3711fba6260855043c8c0a8583f81cb.png

The Lenovo fan header is NOT standard RGB, but "some kind" of ARGB header.

Lenovo doesn't include any photos of the motherboard...so I don't know WHICH type of ARGB header it uses.

BUT ARGB is *USUALLY* 3-pin 5V.

Standard RGB is 4-pin 12V.

If you plug the 4-pin RGB fan/item into a 3-pin ARGB....you *CAN* either kill the RGB fan AND / OR the ARGB header on the motherboard...

In other words, don't force things.

Safe bet is to use get a SATA-to-Molex adapter, and use the included CoolerMaster mini RGB controller.

I will attach an image of my RGB header, I have plugged this currently into the 4 pin RGB header.

But yes I will consider getting the adapter, Thank you for your help.

Also, if you don't mind could you provide some of your insight into this issue I had:

Are you SURE it is a 4-pin RGB header?

Some 3-pin ARGB headers LOOK like the 4-pin header, but has a missing pin.

The 5V ADD_HEADER is actually 3 pins.

The 12V RGB_HEADER is fully 4 pins.

Again, if you mix that up...you can blow / burn things up.

What do 5v and 12v RGB cables look like you ask?

If this is your PSU, it has Molex wires included with it. If that's not your PSU, mind giving a link to yours?
