Would like to upgrade pc, what’s best to do with £200-£300?

Currently things like cpu/gpu are out of budget but I don’t think I’ll save till the end of the year because that’s ages away. For now does anyone have any setup/pc upgrades that fit this budget. Current system for reference (3700x, 5700xt, 32gb 3200mhz, b450 mortar max, 1200w psu etc) cpu is air cooled so I was wondering about some water cooling but idk any suggestions for in pc or random additions to a setup would be great.

A B550 board might be a good choice.

I don't know which to recommend though.

Are your temps bad? Why do you "need" water cooling?

That’s what I was thinking cos I need a better slot to get the full potential out of my SSD. Thanks for the suggestions tho

No not really, I think my gpu can probs hit 70C but it’d be for my cpu so I can resell later. It’s more of the fact it looks good I guess.

I think saving up for a GPU like a 3070 would be a better idea.

You have a Gen 4 SSD and do things that will utilize it's performance?

 

I'm not understanding the 1200w PSU tho.

 

Honestly, i'd look into audio, mouse keyboard, etc.  PC seems very solid, I wouldn't buy a new motherboard at all. Maybe more storage?

Yeah I just want to make sure that it’s actually gonna be worth an upgrade + I’m also scared AMD is gonna release some banging gpu this year which is gonna be cheap af for price/perf. So scared to upgrade so soon if ugm

Well recently I bought a gen 3 SSD but my old one is a sata nvme so only works in one slot, e.g. the slot my new one works in is a lot slower than the 3400 r/w I paid for. I was thinking audio as well because I have good gaming headphones just not music ones.

Please be aware (I am unsure if you are) that SSD performance real world..... is very depenedent on use case.

 

If you're gaming, the 5000GB/sec drives perform virtually identically as 500GB/sec drives.

 

If you're into production on a large scale, then you MAY make use of the speeds on the fast drives.

 

Don't waste money trying to chase SSD speeds.

Well, Zen 3 are the last to use B550 so I wouldn't recommend a new motherboard as you don't know which CPU you are going to go in the future.

While ur here, would u say 3070,80,90/6800/900 is best to save for? I currently get 110 FPS on warzone atm on 1080p monitor. What’s gonna be best value in ur opinion? Thanks

Editing it out of my scope of pseudo-expertise.  I would ask or research who does editing on the scale that you do and see if they get any benefit.

 

Like google "8k editing on NVMe vs SATA SSD" or something.  Or someone here may know.

Yeah thanks for the advice I’ll look on YT, I only do 1080p editing atm because no one really asks for 4K in which case it probably is helpful. Still I’ll take a look cheers!

You have a decent system already, I would save the money and look for a bigger upgrade later on. You will only regret/be disappointed by the small improvements you can make.

 

A great example is the MoBo for the SSD, unless your PC is making you money through work you will likely only see better benchmark results and no real world improvements.

 

If you really want to move into water cooling and OCing you need a lot more to do it properly. Yes you could budget something together but it will likely disappoint you.

 

I am going to assume you are already 1080p 144hz and say you need a lot more to jump up to 1440p and see quality improvements. Yes it does depend on the games you play but the higher you go the less the return on your money per FPS. Big jumps early on are easy but you need a lot more to push things further.

There won't be B650/X670 for AM4.
AMD has made clear that B550/X570 are the chipsets for Ryzen 5000.

What about for zen 4?

Zen 4 will be on a new socket - AM5 most likely.

It could be AM4+, but I think that would have been Zen 3.

Not for 1080p 144h

 

Only this if also going up to 1440p 144hz.

 

Until you can get both monitor and GPU don’t change (you could buy monitor first as you current GPU isn’t bad)
