Pure Gsync Monitor for GTX970

Miketacular

Hi there everyone,

I'm trying to help my buddy slowly but surely optimize his gaming experience. First step is a better gaming monitor since building a new PC is kind of tough now with the GPU shortages.

He's rocking the good ol' GTX970 on a standard monitor. So I know that he can't use a G-sync Compatible Monitor, only a G-Sync. But for the life of me, I can't find a decent monitor in stock and at a decent price that is "just" Gsync. Am I just not reading these product descriptions right?

Basically, I'm just looking to find him a 144hs 1ms IPS 27 inch, 1080p monitor Gsync monitor, but having a tough time.

Nvidia's site here lists all of the models that actually have the G-Sync hardware module as opposed to being "G-Sync compatible": https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/

It appears to me that most of the ones that are actually in production or upcoming are very high-end displays with price tags over $1000 (or in the multiple thousands of dollars range). I doubt you would want to bother for a GTX 970. I am pretty sure virtually all of the "affordable" mainstream G-sync displays are discontinued because Nvidia conceded defeat in that market with the advent of "G-sync compatible." You could look for one second-hand, but to be honest I wouldn't buy one for the sake of a card like a 970 that is going to have to be replaced soon anyway. Better to find a nice 144hz G-sync compatible display that will at least give him a refresh rate boost now and serve him well regardless of what type of GPU he gets when he upgrades.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
