have $100 in hand, How can i upgrade my PC!

azzmain
Go to solution Solved by azzmain,

The system i use is

i3-6100

gigabyte- h110m motherboard

Gskill- 8gb ddr4 ram 2666mghz (getting 2133mghz) single slot.

GTX- 750 system shows 2GB GPU Gddr5

Also use the coolermaster hyper h410r air cooler.

all these running on a AIGO brand 500watt psu 80+ bronze

What should i upgrade on my pc with $100! your single suggestion would be very helpful for me.

Dont tell me to buy a new pc cause its not possible for me. And please dont give any links from where i can buy products for discount cause my country would charge a lot of money for shipping.

and the second hand parts price in my country are same as USA Ebay.

also using a good airflow case- Gamemax Revolt 3606

TIA

With only $100, the only meaningful upgrade you can do is look for a better used GPU.

I could tell you but my fee happens to be $100 :/

More seriously, I'd probably get a CPU upgrade - plenty available second hand - get a non-K one, so you know it hasn't been abused.

Do you have an SSD for the OS if not get one. 100$ are not enough for a new GPU only used.

So choose between GPU and SSD because the budget does not allow for both

Agreed, and going to SSD if it's not already will only really help with boot times tbh.

Side by side specs of the two CPUs:

Only GPU under $100 is a GT1030, and nobody deserves to suffer that.

6700's were 14nm?? Jesus Intel..

But yeah, that CPU change out should provide measurably smoother gameplay. SSD would be a nice-to-have, but won't have an effect on framerates

You have a couple options.

A used GTX 1060 type card, seems like they're going around $100 on ebay. That would be a nice upgrade in graphics power for games.

An SSD if you're running a hard drive (you probably are) would also be an amazing upgrade in terms of PC usability. Once you go SSD you realize how much time you waste waiting for Windows and programs to load out of a hard drive.

A cheap 1TB SSD is around $100 so that's perfect for you.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

I don't even recall 5th gen haha. It seemed like Intel went from 4th gen 4XXX to 6th gen 6XXX SKUs. I think maybe 5th gen was left for mobile processors and was left out of desktop processors.

I think you're right - I looked up 5th gen Core i7 processors and just saw mobile chips.

It was 14nm though.

They've been using 14nm since 2013 (though we're on 14nm++++++)

There’s two broadwell desktop processors, the i7 5775C and i5 5675c

Such a long time being on 14nm. Although, it's impressive to see how far they can go on a single processor node but they really needed to get 10nm sorted out like last year in order to compete with Zen 3.

To the OP though, a locked i7 6700 will serve you well based off of the given budget.

Wow, I didn't even know that. I thought maybe there was but I'd ruled that out since its an odd ball.

Yup, been copypasting the same chips but adding chipset firmware locks so they look like new, oh and 49 dummy pins to justify a new socket, that's it.

The 5930K was 22nm afaik

The 5930K was technically 4th gen Haswell - the Broadwell-E 6800K was 14nm, as was the obscure Broadwell i7-5775C.

5th gen seems to be split between 22nm and 14nm.

The 5775C is 14nm but the 5930K is 22nm.

The broadwell desktop chips aren’t really obscure so much as they are unsold in the US. The i5 5675 and i7 5775 were only really sold in Asian markets and were in some OEM machines.

They also don’t work in anything other than Z97 and H97 boards and they’re not much better than the i7 4790 and i5 4570.

these kinda weird processors have existed for ages, ie the Pentium e6500k

Only trouble there is that the 1060 was a popular mining card. I'd be wary of used GPUs of that era tbh. A non-K CPU upgrade from i3 to i7 is a safer option, and will give noticeable overall improvement.

I wouldn’t worry about a 1060 being mined on, the biggest killer of gpus is heat cycles, it’s why mined on r9 cards were terrible used buys, because they were hot enough where there was potential for them to be damaged from mining

the 1060 though, nah, same deal with the rx 400/500 series, not hot enough to cause issues

A card that was heavily mined on will still work fine, it might just not boost as high. If the card doesn't work, then of course you should return it

Try to save another 100. This way, you can get a used RX 570/580, and then maybe a i5 6500/6600.
Also if you find a really good deal on one of those and you have about $30 to spare, a 2nd stick of ram would be great.

Save your money until you have enough to change CPU, SSD, GPU and to get a second RAM stick for dual channel, it's not worth it to buy an Intel 6th gen since second hand prices are CRAZY

You may be right - they're even over £100 on AliExpress...

Were there any Xeon-hacks for the 6th gen? Might be a way cheaper option if so. Remember the old 771 Xeons that could be modded with some tape to work in a 775 socket?

Dual channel memory would be p important to me but I would save up for an entire new build.

Most important is ssd if u don't have one.
