Editing Topics Adds Unnecessary Lines to Code Boxes.

Browser, version and OS: 

Chrome: v87.0.4280.141

OS: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

 

Steps to reproduce/what were you doing before it happened?

1. Add one or multiple code boxes with content to an existing topic
2. Save
3. Now edit the topic (not the code boxes) with addition lines of information
4. Save

What happened?

Each code box now has as many extra empty lines as were added to the topic (ex. adding two lines of information adds two empty lines to every code box.) these lines stack to outrageous lengths to where you cannot see a single line of code without scrolling.

 

What did you expect to happen?

For each code box to only be as tall as there are number of lines of code.

Steps 2.1 & 2.2 but the behavior is consistent with every single code box going down all the other steps.

None of these empty lines were added by me. Deleting them all only causes them to start stacking up again as I edit the topic.

I've reported this to IPS. I believe it's specific to code tags in spoilers.

Just noticed this as well while editing a post with Code boxes. So it seems like it hasn't been fixed yet, months later. Good thing we're not a coding forum, that'd get annoying real quick.

Perhaps. At the same time though if the issue were more prominent (if we were a coding focused forum) that'd likely provide the drive necessary to get it patched.

 

Ah well, I haven't had the time to write too much of anything to where this bug is much of a bother.

It's only code blocks in spoilers (and perhaps quotes), so it should be pretty rare even in the posts that do have code blocks. I think it's fixed in the next IPS update, but I don't have a timeline for that at this time.
