Razer announces a smart mask with more than just RGB

IAmAndre

Summary

After the gaming chewing gum, Razer just announced a smart mask. I first thought it would be a stupid idea but I actually like it but we don't know what the price will be. Razer claims it's more comfortable to wear, it's transparent, has a technology to avoid voices to be muffled, a better air circulation system, and of course RGB.

Quotes

Quote

With a dual-purpose fast charger that sterilizes at the same time, the smart mask is always ready to go. Glows from red to green for easy reference when checking battery level.

The waterproof, scratch-resistant mask is as tough as it is sustainable—made of recyclable plastic to greatly minimize wastage as compared to disposable masks.

My thoughts

So this is basically a breathable N95 mask with a lot of tech embedded. Again, this is definitely not as stupid as I thought it would be but the success will depend a lot on the price. Anything around $50 would be fine for me, but knowing Razer's record, I wouldn't be surprised if they charge over $100 so most people wouldn't be interested.

I feel like he should be wearing one while talking about how comfortable they are and how clear you can speak while wearing one.

inb4 sold out

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

If this came to market, I'd probably actually buy one.

I have to say though one of the biggest problems still yet to be addressed with masks is how do you drink water or any liquids with a mask on. You right now have to take the mask off to drink water and then put the mask back on.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

the solution to this is UV air filters indoors and increase ventilation. My biggest gripe with building design is they suffocate people.

I would guess it's not filtering the exhaust which makes this mask a fail for a couple reasons.

a) The main reason for wearing masks is to not spread to other people

b) You can't fly with a mask that has an exhaust valve on it because of a)

You might as well buy a half face mask respirator from 3M and then you get known good quality.

It's also suspiciously light on details.  Zero pictures of the inside of the mask and no mention of how much those expensive RGB filters are going to be to replace.

Actually the role of the masks is to prevent droplets from spreading in the air. With such a design, you need those valves because the CO2 can't leave the mast as it would on a regular paper mask (the plastic or whatever material it is) won't let it escape. As long as the valves stop the droplets, this would be fine, especially if it's N95-rated as they mentioned.

I agree that more details could have been provided but time will tell.

N95 masks (known as FFP2 masks in Germany and KN95 in China) will be mandatory in stores and on public transport.

The southern German state is on its own with the plan in Germany so far, not least because many states have lower infection rates. But health experts like it.

"FFP" stands for "filtering facepiece." One main difference from the mouth-nose coverings that have become a common sight throughout the world is that they sit closer to the face and filter both the air that is inhaled and the air that is exhaled.

N95 has nothing to do with the rating of the exhaust filtration.  The source you're quoting is wrong because they're only thinking about dust mask styles of N95 masks, not respirator styles that have valved+unfiltered exhausts with N/P/R-95/100 rated filters.

Also, try being less of a dick.  You can be better than being both a dick and wrong at the same time.
