Oculus Rift S or Oculus Rift CV1?

Planning to buy either one.

 

Is the issue with black screen on the S sorted? 

 

Which one would be better?

Main PC:

CPU: Intel Core i9 13900KS SP 116 (124P-102E) (6.1Ghz P-Cores 4.8Ghz E-cores) MC SP 88

CPU Voltage: LLC8 1.525V (real voltage 1.425V + - Temps 85-90 P-Cores, 70-73 E-cores)

Cooled by: Supercool Direct Die 14th gen full nickel

I love my Rift S. No issues except it doesn't have the focal point adjustment so its fixed positioning so you may have to adjust the head strap and band to find the perfect viewing spot.

The s. Have the s had the cv1. The s is just nicer. If you can wait there is a new vr headset in the works that offers even more and isn't from facebook. Comes out this year and is priced at 450$ called the decagear.

Rift S is a huge leap in resolution, but you lose the nice black levels from the CV1's OLED and also a drop down to 80Hz from the CV1's 90Hz. I prefer resolution over black levels anyway, so Rift S wins there. The inside-out tracking seals the deal for the Rift S though. IME, it's way more accurate, reliable, and responsive than the sensor tower system, and I'm comparing this versus the full 3 sensor tower system of my Rift CV1, which represents the best scenario. At this point, it would come down to cost.. if you can grab a used CV1 for $100-150 less than the Rift S/Quest 2, I might consider a CV1 just to hold you over until the next generation Rift/Quest. 

 

Otherwise I have to echo @Heliian though. I'd recommend the Quest 2 over all of them. You can still tether to your PC with a USB-C to USB-A link cable, with the added flexibility of going completely wireless for some of the less demanding games. You basically get most of the benefits of the Rift S (3% lower resolution) plus mobility for the same price.

 

Here's a "through the lens" side by side comparison between the Rift S and Quest 2. Unfortunately the CV1 isn't in this particular comparison, but you can imagine if the screen door effect is that obvious on the Quest 1, which has a higher resolution than the CV1, then the CV1 would be noticeably worse.

I disagree, I primarily play tethered and the Quest 2's specs are basically identical to the Rift S when tethered.
