I'm not a very good writer not gonna lie lol. Just trying to help, oh well.

So i am building my first pc and was wondering if a 2.5 inch SATA ssd (western digital) can fit in an ASUS x470-pro motherboard or if i have to get an m.2 ssd

Of course you have to get an m.2 ssd. Sata ssds are meant to be mounted somewhere else being connected with a sata cable. This is true to all sata devices. I recommend this ssd. https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-500GB-SSD-WDS500G2B0B/dp/B073SBX6TY/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3N2OSVQO3ROFA&dchild=1&keywords=m.2+ssd+500gb&qid=1610163661&s=electronics&sprefix=m.2+ssd%2Celectronics%2C189&sr=1-6

Main System:
CPU
 - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (OC)

Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 3200 Mhz 16 GB (8x2)
GPU - Asus Dual RTX2060 12GB
Case - Corsair 4000D Airflow
Storage - Crucial BX500 480 GB - Seagate BarraCuda 7200 RPM 2 TB
PSU - PowerSpec 650 Watt 80 Plus Bronze (looking for replacement, its loud)
Cooler - Hyper 212 Evo with two RGB fans

NAS:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 (had on hand)

Motherboard: HP Slimline S5610F Motherboard from Ebay

RAM: EVGA Superclocked 16gb

Storage: 2x 4TB WD Blue and old asf caviar se16 250gb because I had it and its worked for so long I don't trust anything else as much

GPU: Integrated on the mobo
Case: Old PowerSpec case from Micro Center (that can hold 8 hard drives)

PSU: EVGA W3 500W

Cooler: AMD stock cooler at PS4 RPM's that keeps the cpu at 14-24 degrees

Telling him "of course" he "has" to get an m.2 is rather misleading.

@Austin gboa your motherboard has six SATA ports for 2.5" SSD's or traditional 3.5" HDD's to connect to. The drives themselves need to be mounted somewhere else in the PC, and will also require SATA power cabling from your PSU.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

OP is meaning to connect to the motherboard so if they want to connect straight to the mobo no wires they need an M.2. Otherwise they can use a sata ssd like most people.

Just be very careful and dont be anxious, dont be afraid to push in cables. Wait for the click of them. Do the best you can with cable management. It will help in the long run.

Unless you find it for really cheap, they should definitely come with 2-3. It wouldnt make sense otherwise.

Is the psu you are planning to buy modular? If it is you should watch videos on how to put modular cables in. All modern psus come with sata cables btw, modular or not.
