RJ to 3.5 mm headphone dongle

NESHAY

Hi all,

One my friends got a new IP phone for work a Panasonic kx-hdv230B. He would like to use a headset on it but it has a weird RJ9 Headset port. After some google I found a dongle on eBay (link below) that should work but it would take a log time for it to get to us. I was not able to find an electric scheme on how the port is wired, and it should not be difficult to create a dongle like this in short time using far better quality cables.

If anyone knows could you please share it with me?

If it helps any, rj9 is old style phone jack, and was used to connect 1980’s era telephone head sets.  It’s normally two way, so the’ll be both a like out and a line in on it.  It’s a telephone system so that makes sense.  I don’t think better quality cabling would actually improve sound quality.  It’s still a telephone.  They still sell headsets that connect that way.  Adapting a gaming headset to a telephone standard may or may not be possible.  I don’t know if they use the same voltages or not.  Both are fundamentally analog though so that won’t be a problem.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Can't speak to how accurate it is, but believe that is a typical phone handset pinout. So I believe the adaptor would breakout to the sockets instead of hardwired.

Hope that helps

This is rj4.  There is rj4, rj9, and whatever it is ethernet uses.  I want to say rj15 but I’m not sure.  The numbers are the number of wires iirc.

It's a 4P4C, the OP posted a 4P4C adaptor...  ?

I don't use RJ designations as not only are they confusing they are often technically incorrect or misused.

I prefer xPxC format where it is positions and conductors, much more clear.
