sale price is over, but was up for a while after floatplane was posted, got one for sale price a day after floatplane video went up (their fraud department cancelled my first because first purchase on account) has since shipped, will probably do a 1tb and 16/32gb upgrade, possible even the battery

when i called about my cancelled order, they advised me that if by the time i try to place my new order again, the sale price had gone up, they would be able to honor the original sale price. though im sure its easier for a customer rather than the 100+ lmg viewers that may try to buy it if they offered a coupon code

please also be aware, if you are reinstalling windows from scratch, many have found that some drivers will not reinstall themselves from windows update. when I was doing my research on it I had found someone that had contacted gateway support and gotten a dropbox link for the drivers and rgb software (and then reposted to google drive in case they took theirs down) though im having a bit of trouble finding that now, if anything has seen that post, please link it, I may be mistaken but I think it was a reddit post and the links were in a reply

ETA Prime (another youtuber) just a month or so ago had a similar issue, he posted about a pretty decent laptop with a 1650 for about $450 on Walmart's site. It was sold out by the time his video posted, and when it finally came back in stock it was $699 again. So basically the video ended up giving Walmart free traffic to their site, but the object in question was never available. Frustrating situation.

also please be aware, the tongfang laptop listed in the video seems to be a ryzen based model, and any others i can find seem to only be available with an i7, may be the same shell but diffrent internals. also some reports say its an evoo laptop so who knows

I actually got the HP Omen 15 but with a ryzen 7 4800 H and a RTX 2060 (8 gb and 256 gb) a week ago because I'll be doing a fair bit of coding alongside gaming at a student discount at $1040, so I think I sorta lucked out in this ? And it'll definitely be an upgrade from my old i3 7100U with intel hd 620 laptop from 2016

I snagged this almost 2 weeks ago. I upgraded it with a 1 TB M.2 and upgraded to 16GB RAM. Thing runs great. So happy with it for the price. I believe the sale ended on 12/30 or 12/31.

I just bought this one from amazon at US670  (now 830)

https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NH.Q7JAA.009

Im thinking about returning it and buying this gateway model as soon as it his 700 since its only 30 dollars more and (I think) the 2060 is better than the 1650 ti.

My decision depends on which panel is better, but I cannot find what panel uses any of the laptops.

Does anyone know which panel is better?

looks like the nitro has a 144hz panel vs a 120hz panel, based on that id assume the overall panel quality would be better (though not for sure) the gateway has an only 53%srgb coverage

Is there any resource to check the srgb and panel response time of  laptop?. I cant find anything on google or the manufacturer page.

In fact I cant even find the panel model in the acer site.

Gateway laptops were already FELGERCARB back in 2008 - my "experience" with their P-7811FX gaming notebook was enough to turn me away from Gateway for a lifetime. Cheap, made-in-China garbage with the poorest of build quality and hardly any quality control... and yet the fanboys went nuts over it. You can in fact read that review I posted for a good laugh xD

It is shocking when you think back just how many notebook brands have disappeared in these last 10 years - Toshiba are no more in the laptop game, Sony Vaio are gone, Compaq withered away and Gateway as a brand has vanished. It's been 6 years now that I too have moved full time to a desktop system after using notebooks exclusively for 15 years - a decision that I made after coming to the conclusion that innovation in the notebook space was dead.

Come to think of it there's really only 2 major players left today for a notebook PC - Dell and HP. Smaller outfits like Panasonic and Fujitsu persist but their units are very specialist, Lenovo keeps the business/corporate crowd happy while outfits like Clevo somehow survive and continue to cater to the "more money than brains" club. I still would like the chance to whack that Clevo engineer over the head with one of his own hideous keyboards. Yeah, you can still get laptops from Microsoft, Samsung, LG, Asus, Acer etc... but I wouldn't bother - their offerings are insignificant.

Illegear resales Tongfang laptops in Malaysia and hosts drivers on their support website - https://support.illegear.com/. Owners of gateway laptops could potentially source drivers from this website.

Well the price has dropped but not to 700, is this the deal mentioned in the video comments, or is this just happenstance?

I've been wondering the same thing, at $799 its still compelling but I'm not sure if its worth it if the price is going to drop again

My fingers are crossed for it but I guess they'll take another few days to drop the price again.
Maybe Alex can do some magic for us! 😏
