LG 34gn850 vs Xiaomi curved 34

SnigerJens

I ordered a LG 34gn850 a month ago and its delayed delivery til february.
I've been thinking its alot of money to spend on a monitor and the xiaomi 34inch curved just came on sale yesterday about 18%
lg is 1000€ and the xiaomi is 370€
Any one got experience with either monitor?

First reason for going for a cheaper monitor would just be bang for buck. but am i spending enough buck and getting enough bang?
Second would be IF theres new monitors released this year or next where theres a big jump in performance.

Seems like you have second thoughts about spending too much on your monitor? Normally if this is the case, you should just go for the cheaper of the two and bag the extra money. These $1000+ monitors are really for people who don't really care a lot about their money and are glad to pay 50% more for the extra 5% (kinda like the whole 3090 over 3080 thing).

The LG is a good higher-end option.

The Xiaomi is a good budget option.

Both are good monitors, but both are for different price points and their respective customers expect different performance classes.

One thing you could also do is get the Xiaomi now, wait for the LG one, then compare them and decide if the extra money would be worth it. And then return one of them.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Even the cheapest one usually have the same panel inside, you'll be looking at LG, Samsung, BOE panel etc.

Xiaomi it's a 3rd of the price. Paying 3 times more won't give you 3x more bang for your buck.

BTW xiaomi use samsung sva panel where LG use IPS.

You might wanna look into it.

The Xiaomi uses a Samsung VA panel. I have 34" Samsung curved monitor. It is fine for gaming but that is just about it.

I gave the monitor to my son for his video editing rig and he gave it back in a few days since he said the text looked fuzzy compered even to his old ASUS 27" 1440p TN panel. Now the monitor is on top of a book case waiting to be given away.

The monitor I ended up replacing it with was a LG 38" IPS 3840 X 1600 75hz monitor and it is perfect for productivity and games that don't need lots of frames.

the reason for its pricepoint is for the ips curved panel, colors are accurates, response times are the smoothest ive seen.  Blacks are weak, and the bottom corners have sight uniformity issues. It's probably the second best curved monitor on the market behind the 35vq and just ahead of the g9. Though if you don't like the VA smearing, then one could argue that the LG's the best

As for the xiaimi, never seen it, but good bang for buck at that price.

I think im gona go for the xiaomi even with what Jones177 said.
Even tho i think its better to buy the LG but considering i can use that money on a new gpu I think im gona go that route.
I mostly play games, watch movies and read. Not so much video editing and such.

3700x cpu
1080 gpu
36gb ram
2tb+ ssd

Thats my conclusion so far unless anyone has some last minute input.

I am currently using 27'' S27C350 5ms 1080p Samsung so I think even i choose the lesser (xiaomi) It's gona be a big improvement.

Thank you everyone for their input so far, stil open to advice.

When I got the 3440 X 1440 34" monitor I used a GTX 1080 then a GTX 1080 ti and later a RTX 2080 ti.

Only with the 2080 ti did I get most frames over 100 with the settings I liked so I recommend getting a 3070 or better for an upgrade.

sounds like the better choice is get the xiaomi and spend the last 600€ on a gpu.. might be able to stretch and go for 6800xt with the 16gb over the 3080 with 10gb
I should proberly repost under gpu but while i have you here.
Any opinions on current war between nvidia and amd?
I dont play alot of rtx games at the moment but i guess before i buy is gona be a generation or two. So it could be consideration with stupid thinking of 'Future Proof'

I think currently the 6800xt is almost 100€ more than 3080 but if thats the better buy cus of the ram ill go for it.

I do run two monitors alot of the time with a movie on the secondary or discord.
It's just 1080p screen so not tooooo many pixels but i guess it means 3080 territory rather than 3070

34gn850 is amazing monitor, but definitely pricey. put a lot of hours on mine, tbh only downsides are black levels aren't that great and no swivel. i think there's a newer model that's a bit cheaper, forgot the model name.

3080 or 6800 xt are great gpu for 3440x1440 144hz+. you won't get high fps in every game, but doable and g-sync compatibility helps a ton

That Samsung VA panel had a flickering issues with some AMD video cards so look for reviews on the monitor using the new AMD cards. My Nvidia cards had no issues.

I like raytracing so I will stick with Nvidia.

I am playing CP2077 with RT at 4k now. It is at 60fps but it is playable at 40.  It is a must have now as far as I an concerned.

I never really tracked vram when I used a 3440 X 1440 monitor. I think it is only an issue at 4k.

The most I have used in a game was with Assassins' Creed Odyssey at 4k ultra and that was 8.9gbs.

Not really.

I and my Son have used two 4k monitors with 1080 tis and 2080 tis. That is the max on a modern Nvidia card.

With the ultra wide it is best to have the second monitor vertically for desk space.
